Default Valentino Rossi to Test WRC Subaru

Now this could be news! Rossi may test a Subaru WRC car and may enter it in the Rally of Monza November 18-20.

At least it's a great rumor

I think he'll come back for one, possibly two, more season(s) of MotoGP and then try to go to F1 or WRC.

Either way, he'll be great at whatever motorsport he tries.

Has that even been confirmed? Nothing is ever for sure with Ferrari now a days. Rossi's test laps at Floriano (sp?) aren't enough to prove a partnership between him and Ferrari.

F1 is SO missing a character like Rossi. The WRC has plenty, but still, he'd be good in anything.

Nicky Hayden won at the inaugral US MOTO GP at Laguna. It's not always Rossi. Just most of the time.

I don't think it was luck. Hayden and Edwards were the two front runners in that race because both of them had quite a bit of previous experience at Laguna (Hayden in AMA and Edwards in WSB). Although I've never been on it, Laguna is supposedly a tricky track to learn, so most of the MotoGP guys were probably still trying to learn the track. That's my theory anyway.

Hayden is a talented rider, but he's no Rossi. In this case he just had the advantage of a large chunk of track time.

Yeah, I'd like to see Rossi move on to something more challenging. I mean, he swapped off the dominating Honda just to prove it was all him, not the bike, and he made his point--it IS all him, not the bike.

Now, there's no where up to go, and unless he's going to challenge himself by winning on a z50, he may as well try a different type of racing, and maybe his leaving will let someone else win a GP race now and then.

I would like to see him win the title on a Ducati and then go to WRC in a Suby.

The problem for Rossi I think is that F1 really isn't quite up to what he does now. Think about it, Rossi can lap within a few seconds of competitive lap times in a F1 Ferrari right now. What race car driver in any form of auto racing can lap within 3 seconds of Rossi's lap times on a MotoGP bike even with a month of practice? MotoGP is IMHO, the ultimate form of motor racing and anything else, WRC included, will actually be a bit of a let down for Rossi. He may jump to autos for the money or the fame but he's already at the peak of his career. Who knows, his skills may not perfectly translate to cars and that would affect his desire and that's what I think drives Rossi, his passion for the sport.

That said, Rossi winning a championship in a WRC Subaru would sure be fun to watch.
