Exclamation PDX Tuning completely lost my business

Please see my post above. After receiving a response from Jarrad, I was even more disapppointed by the lack of professionalism and poor attitude of PDX Tuning's sales staff. I believe that PDX Tuning should hire professionals to do sales, who know how to deal with customers and adopt a "customer is always right" motto. That's the only way to conduct business.

I am including a response from Jarrad which followed the posting by Tim Bailey; also included is my response to Jarrad.

Aftermath:
1. I haven't heard from Tim Bailey
2. Looked through vendor reviews and found that World One Performance has only positive feedback
3. Called Garret at World One Performance (W1P), who is at least just as knowledgeable and enthusiastic as Forrest at PDX Tuning, likely more so.
4. It took only two fifteen-minute phone calls and exactly 2 hours for him to work up a quote for me, answer all my questions(there were lots), give me sound advice and conclude the deal, all on the same day.
5. I spent more than $8,000 with W1P because Garret is a superb salesman, really knows his stuff and is very knowledgeable about Subaru performance; additionally Garret will get you a MUCH better price on all parts than any other vendor.
6. I saved well over $1000 with W1P versus PDX Tuning's quote, thus allowing me to get more parts that I need, all within my budget.
7. All my friends and their friends and so on willl now purchase parts/do business with World One Performance.

Conclusion:
Although their tuning services may be great, I would NOT recommend PDX Tuning to anyone looking to purchase parts for their cars. At least until PDX Tuning has a major turnover of their sales staff.

Please see Jarrad's reponse and my reply below:

FROM JARRAD, DECEMBER 15, 2006:

We do appreciate your feedback, including the information you posted on
NASIOC.

We attempt to treat all customers equally, from 6K customers down to $20 customers. As you pointed out, we have a very knowledgeable staff here, and our entire staff is dedicated to working closely with each and every customer we have. While we understand and share your enthusiasm with this project we can not always respond back instantly. According to this e-mail chain Forrest responded to you at the end of the day Wednesday. As I understand it you asked a question about the fitment of the FMIC with your fog lights. The simple answer was no, the FMIC we quoted you initially will not work with the fog lights, but Forrest wanted to provide you with a solution that would work. He and other members of my staff discussed the issue, but Forrest was not able to respond to you on Thursday. The next message we got from you was this one stating that you did not wish to purchase from us, followed up by the post on NASIOC.

Again, we appreciate your feedback, however due to the total level of
service we attempt to provide to all our customers I can not hold my guys
accountable to faster response time than what Forrest provided for you. We understand your needs enough to believe that we are not capable of delivering the level of service you require. Hopefully the information we provided to you will prove beneficial in your project and we wish you the best of luck with completing it.

Jarrad

FROM ME, DECEMBER 15, 2006:

Jarrad, I read the NASIOC message from Tim Bailey predicting that I will not be disappointed. Well, I am disappointed by your reply.

As a customer I do not demand any special attention neither do I wish to make it hard on the sales person to work with me. All that I want is to be kept informed on what is happening, and I have plenty of patience to wait if I know how long do I need to wait for.

I don't need a faster response, all I need is to know WHEN are you going to respond.

I believe a simple solution to this issue could have been to tell me that I will need to wait for a couple of days until my question about the fog lights is resolved and tell me that you are in fact busy at this time and it may take you a day or two to get back to me every time. This would have solved the issue.

Now you are simply blowing me off in your e-mail response which I do not see as professional of you being a representative of the PDX Tuning.

Tim Bailey on the other hand seems a professional businessman and a good guy to me, I respect that. So if PDX Tuning is not wishing to do business with me for whatever reason, than I would like to
hear that reason directly from Tim Bailey. Please have him contact me either at ... or at .... Alternatively, please send me his e-mail address and I will contact him myself.

Regards,

13rus

Thanks for taking the time to offer your opinions and feeback. While it pains me to hear about any customer discontent, its through this sort of feedback that PDXTuning can refine our internal processes.

One of the downsides of doing business in a very interactive and personalized manner is that our sales staff is sometimes stretched. We have more expert tuners on staff than sales persons. However, as you outline, the process seems a bit protracted and is inconsistent with our normal processes.

Consistent with the message you quoted above I would appreciate the opportunity reform your impressions of our customer service. I predict you will not be dissapointed.

I'm going to talk with Forrest and Jarrad - the general manager - to make sure your questions are answered and we follow through with any actions needed ASAP.

Best Regards
Tim Bailey

13rus- First congratulations on finding a shop that was able to fulfill your expectations! We wish you could understand our point of view better, but in the end what is most important is you have found the solution you needed.

We apologize for not being able to provide the service you desired, however we believe it is better to have realized this before accepting money. I guess you could look at like this, it cost you nothing, actually saved you 1K apparently, to learn that we were not the shop for you. I am sorry that you felt speaking with Tim would have lead you to a different out come, however after discussing the matter we felt as a business that it was in both your best interest and our best interest to not attempt to satisfy your needs.

We have never felt that we could be the end all be all shop to every customer out there, this is an example of that belief.

Happy new year everyone!

Well figured since I have been doing business with PDX for last two years, it was my time to post in here. Over the last few years I can’t say how much I have appreciated the assistance of PDXTuning, They have turned into my single call for any part I would need for building up my previous car, and will also be the first place I call in the building of my next. One thing people have to keep in mind, is that nothing ever is perfect but what makes an average business a great one is how they identify the issue and what they do to make it right. So I keep that in the back of my mind when I order stuff, because I have never been let down by these guys either way.

Update: From then to now, PDX once again, was there to help me get back going loosing my car. Combined talent, of PDX, Jarred, TimB, Mick, Jeff S. Should make PDX your first choice for tuning, and or work in Oregon.

Just want to post my experience with PDX Tuning.

I filled out the CobbAP Map upgrade request form on their website in the beginning of November. Since it was just after SEMA, I expected a bit of a wait for a reply. I saw from posts on various forums that the average wait time is about 10 business days. To get to the point, I got my maps emailed to me Dec 19th. I kinda forgot I ever requested them since it's the holiday season and all.

But it was worth the wait. On the first drive I noticed an immediate difference. Throttle response, spool-up, and power delivery was noticably better than the OTS maps from COBB. It was like a different car!

Summary: Great custom maps, bit of a wait. Still recommended!

Suggestion to PDX: An automated email confirming that you've got my request would have been nice. Maybe even a estimated time of delivery.

Just got back from PDXT- great bunch of fellows. Very busy... Had my car tuned there by appt. No issues with anything.
Sadly hours after tuning my TPS went out so that was not fun.. however, Jarrad got me fixed up in no time, without an appt.
I can't say enough good things about PDXT...

just got a pdx map for my current set up...
MY06wrx-TR, APS TMIC, 3.5" TBE, K&N drop in fliter.
much smoother power delivery.
it kinda is how stage 1 doesn't give you much "more" power but it makes it drive better. and they defeated a CEL for me. now i can drive with being annoyed by the check engine light and the blinking cruse control light.
over all-worth the $150

and i did a baseline dyno before the big install and i put these numbers down.

I was just about to track this thread down Kiwi, I wasn't able to be there for the tuning sessions this year but last year Jarred did an incredible job tuning a large amount of us Alaskan cars in a very short time period and was still a super cool dude even with being so cramped and probably worn out. I am hoping to get in on the next one as I need to be tuned for my vf22 and such so maybe I'll be able to write a review for email tunes from them but pdx is a great great company.

Another Alaskan praising PDX and Jarred especially for putting some very tasty maps together. Wasn't able to make it to the session but the overnight late parts mod marathon was totally worthwhile. No small effort from Ralph for taking the car to the location I might add.

Another GREAT tune by Jarrad. From E-tune in Alaska to road tuned by Jarrad in Alaska to dyno tuned with support for my failed stock BCS at PDX.

Car pulls to the top in every gear and has power everywhere smoothly. Spools extremely fast.

Just wanted to share my experience with PDX Tuning. I used them for an etune recently for my VF39 swap.

I got off to a bit of a rocky start when I ordered my maps. Up until then I had received very prompt and attentive responses to all of my newb tuning inquiries, before even dropping a dime on their services. After I paid for the etune service however, I never received a confirmation email saying payment had been processed, etc.

It actually took almost two weeks to get my maps. I hadn't known Jarrad was out of town for consecutive weeks on tuning trips. I chalk it up to just misfortunate timing on my behalf.

When Jarrad got back to the shop, I was receiving very prompt and attentive responses once again. It took several different calibrations to the maps to get the car to where I think it should be. Jarrad said the data logs look great too, so that's what is important. It is a vast improvement over the Cobb OTS map. Spools much quicker, and pulls much much harder than the Cobb map. Totally night and day difference.

I wish I lived slightly closer and could get a dyno/road tune from Jarrad. Maybe someday I'll be able to make it out to the Pacific NW.

Thanks again for all of your help Jarrad! Keep up the great work!

Cool

My 03 wrx map is less boost but much less lag and I like it a lot better than cobb stage 2. I haven't had a chance to see if it performs as well in the higher rev range yet but mid range is better and low end is like a new car. They were nice to me on the phone and I recommend them to anyone.

Default Jarrad is the best!!

Encyclopedic knowledge, sensible tuning - would not let anyone else tune my car. It is his show entirely now, so everything is consistent 10/10/365!!

+1 Jarrad has epic tuning knowledge and is willing to share as much detail as you can process as far as what goes into making a tune happen.

Nothing bad to say almost a year after the latest tune. Unfortunately im calling the wagon done at stage 2+. I cant wait to have him tune a clean slate with the next car which will obviously be a WRX.

All I can say is good things about PDX Tuning.
Started data logging to get maps tweaked and one set I emailed Saturday and received new maps on Sunday. Then that same Sunday I had another set of maps after some more data logging was completed. Don't know if this is normal for them but it's pretty awesome to have that kind of service.
Right now my car is acting up and they have been trying to help me along the way checking certain items. Thank you for the help so far!

With all that being said customer service is a big deal to me and they have my support. (unlike Gruppe-S you guys suck hairy balls)

Thank you PDX!

Bought an Etune for my new setup:
VF30
565cc injectors
Walboro 255
STI TMIC
Grimmspeed EBCS
Gimmick V2 inlet & MAF tube
Invidia V2 catless DP, Greddy UP & Evo 2 catback

I didn't realize how much the Cobb OTS maps are missing the mark. Power is smooth and the band is much wider then the OTS map. In fact the car feels slower b/c there are no spikes.... Then I look down and the speedo and think "holy crap i need to slow down". Zero Knock, DAM is at 16 and no more rich smell.

Jarred was great to work with and provided quick service. This is definately worth $150, fast, smooth, and more reliable. Dont hesitate to get an Etune!

Just wanted to post about my positive experience with Jarrad at PDX.

Jarrad came out to STL earlier this year to tune some cars and luckily I was able to secure a spot. The tune was a quick process and the car made pretty good power even with limited bolt-ons. Jarrad took the time to see what I wanted from the tune and provided a tune to meet my expectations.

This is all pretty standard but I was really surprised by the after sale service and this is where most vendors fail. Shortly after the excitement of the tune wore off and I started driving using less than WOT from every light, I noticed that some minor issues started becoming more noticeable. I emailed Jarrad and he offered to diagnose and re-tune to my satisfaction without any hesitation. He was able to isolate and fix the issue with one set of data logs.

I've worked with another well known tuner on an e-mail tune and the process was considerably more difficult and I ended up with an inferior tune.

If you're thinking about a tune, strongly consider Jarrad at PDX. I think that most of the tuners would do a reasonably good job but the quality of Jarrad's overall service before and after the sale really set him apart from the pack.
