Does anyone know how to shut off a/c when the front defogger is on?

I hate when it rains and the front window fogged up and the a/c kicks in... it kill my gas mileage (I'm a broke ass student who does not want to waste gas with th a/c on).

Any advice?

It depends on what car/year you have. If you have manual HVAC controls you can follow the info in this thread-

If you have the newer automatic controls you are SOL.

NOOOO, You want the A/C on. Or else all your windows will fog up. It couldn't possibly kill your gas miledge that bad.

An '05 RS has automatic climate controls, right?
In that case, there's nothing you can do other than hit the A/C button after you turn on the defroster. Why not just do that?

It does for me; if I switch to the defogger, I just punch the A/C on and off as needed and does in fact engage/disengage the compressor.

Does for me as well... I highly doubt you got a special model, or that it for some reason does not function the same as everyone elses.

i hate when it rains , like it has the past 2 FUGGIN DAYS!! and 1 more day to go.. jesus .. my windows fog up liek crazy and i have to put on my a/c to get rid of it obviously, but my car feels sooooooooooooo sluggish and my windows start getting like some other crap on my windows on the outside

Hey kcook I hate that, too... I've been meaning to try some Rain-X Anti Fog (if they even still sell it

) to see if I can avoid having the defroster on; it gets pretty humid here in the late summer/early fall and it's annoying.

how can the car feel sluggish when the a/c disengages under wot? just floor it. no ac system in the world stays on at wot. not on any car.

rain driving can be pretty fun, but the limit is sooner and the consequenses are worse.

On kind of a related note...why doesn't my compressor turn on when I put the air to the defrost and foot position? Kinda lame if I want to dry my wet shoes as well as defog.
