So after we spent an hour or so cleaning my car and going through the engine, he wanted to take it out for a drive. During this drive, I think he went about 90 mph 5 times. I said to him, now imagine twice as much horsepower with more performance parts. 5 minutes after he says "I think I want an STi". He also mentioned that he loves the awd.
I took him home and was showing him some pics of the 06' and 05' STi's and he decided he hated the look of the 06' and wanted an 05'. Probably gonna go down to the Subaru dealership and take one for a test drive. I think he wants leather seats, but I tried to explain how leather seats + high speed = bad. I know you can get a limited edition 06' with leather seats but do 05's come with that option? *EDIT* For clarification, my dad is wanting to buy this car for HIMSELF, not me.

No leather in 05's from the factory. Tell him to look at the 06 in person before he decides as well. It sounds like an 06 WRX limited sedan is just what the doctor ordered. Honestly, an STi sounds like overkill if he has just casually decided that he wants one. The 06 w/ the 2.5 will give him the straight line power and comfort that he wants. The brakes are great on the 06 and the suspension can be upgraded as he sees fit.

to answer your question, no, STi's do not come with leather seats. Ofcourse, this is possible, if you have/want to waste money on redoing your interior

Have him drive the Legacy GT while he's there. He could get an '06 without going to the new Subie front end. It also won't scream mid-life crisis, not that there's anything wrong with that!

Yeah, a Legacy GT sounds like a good car for him... just few minor mods and some EM and he'll probably have all the power he needs. It'd be a much more comfortable ride too. |

If he really wants a good blend of performance and refinement at a decent price, the Legacy GT is an excellent option. And dang...that's a good looking car.

Fett52 - welcome to the family - and like all disfunctional families - some folks get in pissy moods. Don't let them rain on your parade. Great that you have a Dad the "gets it". You can bond over the STi. Congrats and nice job convincing him!

I had to talk my dad into getting me the 06 sti.
My dad simply didn't care (he wanted me to get a honda or toyoto o.o), but he DID care about price, warrenty, and the quality. Hence when we did Evo MR vs. STI, we would save more money on the sti (free oilchange for life) better warrenty, and he said that subaru is better off than the mitsubishi. |
