Unhappy

Basically USAA is trying to get rid of me. I have a total of 3 accidents in the last 5 years (all of which we're not my fault, dodged a deer; wrecked my VW's suspension, got hit in a parking lot ;also VW, then ice storm this winter slide my Scoob over a light post.) Add 2 speeding tickets in 4 years and they said "F you".
All state is quoting $1,752.61/ 6mo.
Progressive is $1329/6 mo.
AAA is $1257/6 mo
Geico was $2525/6 mo.
And Kerner(?) was $1929/MO!
IM pissed off right now,I've been with USAA for 8 years, and this is the least number of tickets I have ever had....I dont want to loose my Scoob guys, Im really freakin out.

tcs007,
It all depends on whats on your record and where you live. There are some real wierd differences in rates. The Giants were almost double what gieco and progressive quoted when I looked.

$1300 low for 6 mo? for your record thats not half bad! Not so long ago I was paying $1150/ 6mo and all I had on my record was one accident. Since then I turned 25 and it went down though.

Try prudential. Although I cant really compare my rate to yours.. (as I have had no tickets or accidents), they were very reasonable. I think I payed around 465/six months. American Family was the next cheapest. (I'm under 25.. so my rate may be a bit higher).

Get a quote from State Farm.

Now the part I don't get is how none of this is your fault. If you accept some accountability, you can do better and in a few years your rate will go down.

Right now our insurance is with Farmer's--decent rates (except for the WRX which is still on order). Recently looked into AIG and they were by far cheaper on the WRX, about the same or slightly higher on the other vehicles.

Shawn,

My insurance is with Shelter -- my agent is Joe Canda. He "estimated" $290/3 months for the WRX...but then, I'm 30 and don't have any tickets on my record that Traffic Law Center (or equivalent) didn't take care of. His number is 636-391-6680. Good luck!

Before I got my RS, I tried both Geico and Progressive. They both wanted somewhere in the neighborhood of $1200/6 mo. I then went to Am Fam, and they quoted me $592.16 every 6 mo. Then I tried State farm, and they quoted me just over $600.
I'm 30, no tickets or accidents in the last 3 years, and single.
I've had other friends get quotes from Geico and Progressive, and they were consistently double the price vs. "The Giants".
I will NEVER get Geico or Progressive insurance based on my experiences. Save 15-20% my a$$.

thanks all,
Colin, have you ever benn faced with slaming into a deer? I have and I chose to swerve, bad choice I admit, but its scary as hell. I didnt say, hrmm I want to go hit something, nor is it like I wasn't paying attention or I was dicking around.
Ice storm's, they suck, Im not the only one who has fallen victim to it (especially on kumho's...ask any body shop about that month.
Getting hit in a parking lot, how the F#$% is that any of my responsibility?
Speeding tickets, yeah its my fault, I dont deny that.

Yep, was a passenger and we ran it over. Driver's girlfriend was following us and ran it over too. I agree, some things can't be avoided.

Anyway, I don't mean to sound unsympathetic and no doubt this is a serious matter... but you do have a hand in this.

When you get your new insurance, just be conscious of the cost of future mistakes or accidents. Most people with a history of tickets can't avoid future ones until they get into the habit of actively thinking about what will happen to them if they get one more ticket or get into another accident.

btw, consider snow tires next year. 15" steelies and snows from the tirerack = <$450 shipped, which is less than your deductable and doesn't affect your rates.

Unfortunately, you can't classify 2 of the accidents as "not your fault". USAA sees it as "if we have to pay from our pocket, then it's your fault."

You were not "at fault" for any of the accidents. Damn Deer...

Someone should start an insurance company that gives refunds. You should get some money back if you stay clean for a year...

Cool beans! I presume that means you no longer need to talk to my agent, but in case you do -- he called me saying he couldn't reach you at the number you left. So if the AllState thing winds up not panning out you need to call him back. Hopefully, though, you're set!

I WILL meet everybody at the autocross. I found out today I get to come back from my biz trip on Friday night instead of Sunday morning.
