Default Apexi Boost Gauge backlight Help

i installed my boost gauge today. apexi el series with the main control unity. i used a vampire clamp to the cig lighter 12v for power. the boost needle works and displays boost but the backlight doesn't work.

after driving for a bit, the backlight would flicker on really quick and it would almost seem like it was reseting. the light would never stay on. i changed the wire from the gauge to the control unit and it was the same issue.

anyone know whats going on? im suspecting possibly a short in power supply but when i check the neg and positive lines they do not cross. i grounded on the yellow wire just to the left of the cig lighter. the only time i can get the gauge to do the flicker and reset is when i jiggle the positive (black) wire. could i have possibly not vamped the power supply correctly?

i did buy it used so ive got no warranty coverage on it, i think. and yes i did disconnect the battery before removing any wire and i did ground myself to discharge static buildup. but you never know.

thanks in advance.
