Default Hey buddy AWD>RWD in the rain...

Figured I would share an interesting experience that happened to me Saturday morning. I had just picked up the fiancee from the Old Navy on River Road in Edgewater, and we were heading home south on river road. The roads were wet and slick due to the rainy conditions. I was dirivng, minding my own business, when a mid-nineties Mustang GT pulled behind me. I noticed that he kept laying back then accelerating real hard behind me, just basically being a tool. He pulled into the right lane and did the same thing like he was gonna pass me, but slower traffic caused him to pull back behind me. My first thought was this idiot is gonna rear-end me if I have to brake b/c of the rain.

The car in front of me turned left and the road opened up ahead. I basically just stepped on the gas to clear the cars in the right lane so I could move over and get away from him. Upon seeing this, he proceeded to gas it hard ( I heard it). Next thing, I look in my rearview and he is spinning across all four lans of river road and wound up sliding across the Northbound traffic lanes (luckily for him no cars were coming) and struck the curb with the nose of his car. All I hear is everyone now honking at him as he is blocking the northbound traffic. I couldn't believe it! A bit later down the road, I noticed his car once again behind me , although a few cars seperated us. He just laid back. I turned off and he drove past. I guess he was extremely embarassed with his newbie drifting skrillz. Why do people insist on driving like asshats in the rain? I just stepped on it to basically get out of the left lane and out of his way, and he thought he should race in a rain showers...in his RWD Mustang. At least he didn't get hurt, and hopefully he learned his lesson, "take it easy in the wet stuff".

Just thought I should share...

LG

at the asshattery

i've had many experiences like that. some jerk wants to race IN TRAFFIC so i try to get away from him before he hits me, then once traffic opens up he takes off and i'm still minding my own business. people are dumb.

thats great! I almost wish I could of witnessed that all happen.

I havn't had someone do anything that funny, but i've had times where i'm crusing the passing lane keeping up with the flow of traffic. There sometimes is always 1 ahole that feels the need to pass on the right......so he can just get caught up with the next group. Cracks me up when it takes the person like 3-5 tries in the right hand lane just to get around 3 cars and get right behind 3 others. I normally will laugh at him the 3rd time he tries to pass on the right and ends up tucking back right where he was.

When he spun into to the curb you should have pulled the hand brake and turned around. Then gave him one of your business cards. $$!!

Oh man. When I read that I thought we were in for an OT-style street racing thead. Most, if not all street racing threads start off with people "minding their own business."

How about the asshats in SUVs who think they can keep up w/ sports cars. Back when I had my ol' '93 RX-7 (handles like it's on rails), taking a 270 degree off ramp from I-95. Speed limit is 25. I have taken this off ramp plenty of times before, and know I could easily do 70 on it, without so much as a hiccup from the tires (I had even better grip that day as I was driving to the track with Kumho Victoracers on ). Asshat in a Ford Exploder had been tailing me as I was in the right exit lane. Dry surface. I think, okay, ramp is clear, let's see him tail me on the ramp. I downshift to 4th and stay on the ramp at roughly 65 or so. Maybe 1/4 way onto the ramp, he nails the brakes. Too late! Over-correction and Doh! I could see him lose it in my rear view mirror. Another overturned Ford Exploder - this time caused by the driver, not the tires.

Ya i live in the sticks with alot of rednecks that think their pick-up truck is the best thing on the road. They tend to get really pissed off when a forein car gets out of their sight.....guess they never thought that MAYBE a forein can out handle a pick-up (they for sure have not realize just about anything can do this)on twisty/hilly/bumpy back roads .

I had a dude in an SRT-4 the other day showing me how loud his BOV was on the thruway in traffic. I kinda just gave him the "what do you want me to do look?" and then I got off at my exit.

Funny thing is my Fiancee was sitting in the passenger seat with no clue as to why I was hysterical laughing. I had to tell her some moron just spun out behind me trying to show off. She really didn't find it as funny. Maybe it's b/c she doesn't drive?

Thing is the road is probably the worst place to speed...it's dead straight, but is usually loaded w/ Edgewater cops. For those familiar w/ the area, he spun out right by that restaurant "Sabor".

when i 1st finshed my 240 the rain was so much fun, but i hated other cars so id wait till i was alone. 30-45 degree choku dori's on 280 between montclair/west orange... you can do everything so much more gracefully at slower speeds

harrr... whoops that slipped

now i only take it out for events, i dont even bother with car shows cuz its so boring. lol

Yup this reminds me of 2 weeks ago at Watkins Glen, the same Vette drivers who complain about my Subaru being slow in the summer on the straights when they are doing like 130+mph were complaining to the organizers of the HPDE that I was up under them in the turns in the rain! It was absolutely amazing overtaking tons and tons of very expensive toys in the rain, then to have em ask me afterward "what you have in there?" my response was "AWD!" It is a beautiful thing!

Especially when it's a 1994 Legacy Turbo with 165hp/190lbs torque, and 130k miles on it!
