Mini Cooper Named Best Overall

POSTED: 10:52 am EDT October 11, 2005

A survey of vehicle value shows Toyota's Scion brand faring better than the Japanese automaker's more established nameplates.

Strategic Vision in San Diego said the Scion xA was the highest-ranking small car, and the Scion xB was tops in the small, multi-function segment.

Honda was the overall winner, and General Motors was the top performer among American automakers. The best individual model was the Mini Cooper.

The survey group said that Japanese brands were tops in 12 of 23 categories

Officials said Honda was strong on fuel economy, resale value and technological innovations.

The survey is in its 10th year. It questioned 69,000 buyers of 2005 model year vehicles.

Other vehicles that scored at the top of their categories included the Mini Cooper convertible, Subaru Baja, Ford F-150, Nissan Altima and Kia Amanti. (Full list of winners.)

Rankings were partly based on anticipated resale value, reliability and durability.

It seems strange to see the Impreza in the "Medium Car" segment. It's more the reason for the GE Impreza to be smaller!

With the recent surge in really small cars the Impreza just isn't small enough anymore. The 5 passenger rating might have something to do with it.

Wouldn't a coupe Impreza be the same size as a sedan Impreza? Like they were before? So it wouldn't be any smaller.
