Default Can anyone help me tune my cda-9815 ?

I just hooked this deck up in my car and I am real confused with setting it up . It sounds like crap right now .I have infinity reference tweeters in the front doors and kappa perfect midwoofers . The rear doors have the stockers and I am running two jl10w0 subs in the trunk .
I measured the distances of the speakers(close) and came up with
Front left-31"
Front right-47"
Rear right-31"
Rear left-25" from my listening area .
The subs are in the trunk so that's ~61" .

Can Anyone running this head unit give me some numbers to work with? I am car audio handicapped

Take the longest measurement (61") and subtract everything from that. The speed of sound is approximately 1137.3 feet per second at room temperature, which would be 13648 inches per second. Divide your distances by this number, and that will give you the number of seconds to delay each speaker, multiply by 1000 to convert to ms. So:

FL - 2.20ms
FR - 1.03ms
RR - 2.20ms
RL - 2.64ms
sub - 0ms

That's just a tiny bit of the tuning though, what is it that sounds bad about the setup? No midbass? Harsh treble?

Well the highs arent real high the sub's don't seem to be working at all(amp light is on) and the mids just sound flat? I just upgraded from a cda-9807 . That was alot more user friendly

I really don't know . I pushed buttons and turned the dial I was hoping I could have someone post up their actual settings that I could put in the i personalize thing and just load them and work off that . I have the time correction thing figured out and I messed with the other controls a little and got it sounding "better" . I just can't seems to figure out whey the subs arent fireing .

Just for clarification you are running an amp on the seperates...right? You mention an amp....but I dont know if that is for the sub or for the fronts or what.

Did you register on the i-personalize site and do your own download? its free and you dont have to actually put in any serial numbers or anything.

And where are your gains on the amps?

I am running the seperates off the head unit the amp is hooked to the subs . I don't have an amp hooked to the fronts yet . I know I need to amp them but just havent wanted to dig into running wires through the door yet .And yes I registered on the alpine site ad have been trying to figure that all out . I have the time correction down I think but have these two areas to deal with before I can download them and burn the disc .

crossover control:
Subwoofer REAR Front
HZ ___________ ________ __________
DB ___________ _________ __________
DB/oct___________ _________ __________

Parametric EQ:

HZ ______ ______ _______ ______ _______
DB ______ _______ _______ ______ _______
Width______ _______ _______ _______ _______

I really don't know wht these setting's should be . Does anyone have a I personalize file they could send me to use to start from ? I searched and read tons of great reviews about this deck but had no idea what I was getting involved in

PM Me your email addy and I will put one together tomorrow and send it to you. But I would be surprised if it works with the internal amp.

BTW, to turn the sub "ON" you have to go into the "SETUP" menu and scroll through until you get to subwoofer until you find subwoofer. Then using the arrow keys select "ON".

You are using some passive crossovers with those speakers in the front right?

Ok im making progress . I had the aux rca's hooked to the sub rca outputs and the subs to the aux(Ipod ) So I switched them back and the subs work now(duh me) . I am using the crossovers that came with the reference components in the front doors . I will get an amp this weekend and juice up the fronts .

Alright then try 80hz 12dB/oct for the front highpass, probably like 120hz 12dB/oct for the rear highpass (stockers can't handle bass), and like 80hz 12dB/oct for the sub's lowpass. Once you get that, try increasing the cutoff slope and raising or lowering the cutoff frequency to see how it affects the sound. It's hard to describe what it will do without you actually hearing it.

I'd start with it completely flat and adjust the areas depending on where you feel you're lacking or have too much of. Working the EQ on the unit itself is a bit of a pain, but I figured it out spending some time with the owner's manual while playing around with it.

Getting it to sound the best in your setup will just take a little time and tuning. I ended up having mine pretty much flat, but I never actually used the HU to power my aftermarket speakers.
