Ok I have a few questions...
1) has anyone noticed a shaking/vibration when turning the wheel at very low speeds??(rare) 2)a clunking/click sound when shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear at low speeds?(not the thump from the rear diff) 3) the door rattle bad when shutting? sounding like they are going to fall off if you shut them with the window part down... and i think thats it for now, just some things that are getting me nervous... btw its got 3008 miles, in 3 weeks tomorrow.

yah, i hate that sound it makes when the window is halfway down and you shut the door, it makes the car feel and sound so "cheap"
even though you know it isnt.. ~~PeAcE~~ John www.impreza25RS.cjb.net |

I think those are all normal. When you say shaking while turning, what kind of shaking? The steering wheel shakes/vibrates? Or the whole car kind of shudders? Have you tried putting the clutch in at really low speeds?
I get the shifting "clunk" too. And everyone gets the door rattle when the window is down and you close the door. Just a side effect of frameless windows, I guess. Jordan |

I have the window thing also, I think it's just that the window bracket is loose.

No nothing is loose inside the door to the window. It's just made that way. Notice that the passenger side window does not do that? Thats because it has some extra supports inside the door so it doesn't rattle. BTW those same supports are what make the passenger window slow. If you do the mod to make it quicker you will have the same rattle as the drivers side.

You're "new car paranoid", it's all normal, I went through the same thing when I first bought my RS, it was all new to me since I went from Honda to a car I knew nothing about.

Your car is getting the typical Subaru "personality". You get used to it after a while.

I have the "click" between 2nd and 3rd, especially at slower speeds (or maybe that's just when I notice it). I took mine into the local dealer and he said it was normal. But I've been told a whole bunch of stuff is "normal." BTW, my passenger side door makes the same hollow/broken sound as the driver. Is that "normal."
Only 7000 miles on mine. |

Put some sound deadening (Dynamat or the partsexpress.com stuff or whatever) on the doors. You'll feel a world of difference.

Just going through these myself.. not even 3000km on the odo yet. My mechanic said the clicking noise is the heat shield rattling around. He quieted it temporarily, but as soon as I got on the throttle hours later, it was back to it's noisy self. I've heard some guys have removed them, or had them welded to stay put. The way I see it, if it's just a noise, and nothing is wrong, then I won't worry about it. Once my little plan goes into action, there will be enough "noise" to drown out not only those little rattles, but the rest of the world around me

that "thud" IS normal. It's the rear diff engaging, and happens if you shift to roughly.
