Default Being told not to wear gold is racist if you are in the NBA

But the new policy is taking some heat already, with Indiana Pacers guard Stephen Jackson telling ESPN that the league ban on chains worn over clothing is "a racist statement" from the league.

Jackson said he had no problem with requiring players to dress better. But he drew the line at players being told their chains and necklaces can't be visible over their clothes.

"I just think that's attacking young, black males," said Jackson, who wore four chains to the Pacers exhibition game against San Antonio on Tuesday night. "The part about wearing suits, I think we should dress up. A lot of guys have gotten sloppy with the way they dress and I have no problem with that. But the chains, that's going a little too far."

Jackson told ESPN that the policy on jewelry was "a racist statement because a lot of the guys who are wearing chains are my age and are black. I wore all my jewelry today to let it be known that I'm upset with it.

"I'll wear a suit every day. I think we do need to look more professional because it is a business. A lot of guys have gotten sloppy with the way they dress. But it's one thing to [enforce a] dress code and it's another thing if you're attacking cultures, and that's what I think they're doing."

"I know a lot of guys on my team are upset and I have no problem speaking up on it," Jackson said to ESPN.

He did say, however, that he wouldn't openly defy the rule because he didn't want to pay fines.
ummm, yeah

I can't wear hip-hop chains to either of my jobs. Maybe my employers are racist, too?

That attitude is why I haven't watched an NBA game in more than 10 years. I could give a **** about some gangbangers running up and down the court. They have no respect for the game, only about how much money they can make and how much *bling* and ice they can afford

Well, that means that your peers are not business-like. That's a fact, jack.

Didn't the NBA bring this little controversy on themselves years ago, when they gave their league a hip-hop makeover?

I don't get it. It's a dress code.....any public facing corporation has one. Public image is so important to these guys, yet they think it's all up to them to decide that. Team goes all the way from the guys on the court, to the front office, to the league itself. Without the other parts, the individual on the court is nothing but a street baller.

Yes. And thats my only issue with the dress code whole thing. They embraced this for a while and then when it started biting them in the ass they decided to go full tilt in the opposite direction.

Pretty much. Now it turns out to have been a bad decision, so they're working on fixing it.

The boss says "Show up to work looking like a professional, or work somewhere else." Nothing wrong with that.

It's not racist; it's culturalist.

What used to be a statement is now mainstream fashion. There are almost as many white people in that age group who buy into the ghetto pimp look. It used to be a way of blantantly flashing your wealth; now it's just "street attitude." People who worship street attitude can shampoo my crotch.

Visible gold chains on males has never been anything other than vulgar.

I mean, isn't the expensive car and fine suit enough?
