Default Custom Tune

I have a 05 Forester XT. Mods are TurboXS Stealthback, cobb stage 2, sti axel back, ERZ uppipe and typhoon intake. How much more power could I expect getting a protune over the base cobb stage 2 map?

Probably just about what everyone else gains over the off the shelf maps regardless of their application; less then 20 peak whp/ft-lbs. Typically custom tunning gives you better power curves. Below is my recent custom tunning result compared against when the car was stock a few months earlier.

Compare those power curves to Cobb's stg2 dyno plot from their website.

As you can tell things are much smoother and broader for me.

Looks pretty decent. Would have been nice to see a baseline stage 2 dyno. I highly doubt I have 264 AWTQ. Though if your getting 256 out of a 2.0l i guess its possible. 220hp seems about right.

The reason I am asking as there is a dyno day coming un in November and there will be a protuner there to help all of us AP guys out. As I dont have the cash for a larger top mount and a tune, so I was wondering it if would be worth the 350 bux for the custom tune with my current set up. I know the XT intercooler is a huge limitation for good power as is the tdo4. But with my car being an auto, the tdo4 is probably all I will go to save my tranny from a quick death.

Cobb's numbers are at the crank not the wheels.

If your tuner knows what he's doing, he can use AVCS tweaks to really help the low end power of the car. I think you could gain some power but you'd definitely be able to gain some more drivability.

Cobbs chart says measured at the wheels.

The big question i have I guess is this. If I get the tune now, without a bigger topmount, how much power will I be missing out on? And Assuming I get the tune on the stocker, how will it affect me when I finally do upgrade?

No one produces numbers at the crank. I don't think anyone in the NASIOC tuning community has an engine dyno...

224 at the crank would be pretty sad for an FXT. Aren't they rated at 250 @crank stock?

My tune is at 13psi w/ stock intercooler. After tunning Jarrad said he thinks he remembers getting 15psi out of a td04 w/ a STI intercooler. So that will get you some more power. How much more I don't know. On a 2.5L Jarrad says anything beyond 13psi becomes a hairdryer so I wouldn't expect to much more even with a larger intercooler. A larger topmount shouldn't affect your tune to much at a later date although you should really talk to your tuner about that. You probably won't see much performance increase though without the car being tuned for it. If you plan to stick wtih the stock turbo I'd say wait for the larger intercooler. If you plan on upgrading sometime in the future and are going to re-use the intercooler then it's a bit more grey. Personally when I go to a larger turbo chances are it's going to be a front mount or air-to-water so i didn't want to spend the money on a topmount. If you're serious about persuing this call up which ever tuner you plan on using. They should be able to give you pretty good answers to all your questions. If they can't I'd personally be a little warry. All the big name tuners should easily be able to discuss specifics about this type of setup to you based on prior cars they have tuned.
