Question new headers, worth it?

im already running a catless exhaust set-up and i was thinking of finishing it off with a new set of gruppe-s headers. they are a great price and i hear they're really nice quality as well. is it a good performance mod to replace the manifold. i mean i could really feel the difference when i added the new downpipe and uppipe. what kind of whp and sound benefits will i be looking at? i actually wouldn't mind if my exhaust was a bit louder, will i get some sound gains as well?

thanks guys

if they're equal length then you'll lose the boxer grumble and a search on headers may tell you that just gasket matching and tapering the stock cast-iron ones will yield great result while retaining the heat desired over stainless ones.

i like my borlas.

if you do get headers wrap them and spray them w/ hitemp silicone paint. I should've done this when I first got my headers over a yr ago....

the wrap is supposed to help w/ lag. Be prepared to boost a cpl hundred rpms later but once you get there...theres alot more torque and power. For my setup thats about 3300k or so.

You can also think about porting your stock manifold(if you are diy or willing to pay someone to do it for u). You will gain power and throttle response but not suffer nearly as much lag as you would w/ aftermarket headers.

read unabomber's faq for a lot of answers to your questions.

yes louder and 10-15 whp.

read all of unabomber's faqs

If Helix ever gets off their butt and releases headers, I will buy them!

just got my gruppe on. there is definetly more lower band power. much louder in sound. they are unequal so it sounds much deeper with the boxer beat. i say if you have pretty much done everything thing else this is cheap and much funner to have on. and it is a bit lighter then the other stock piece. oh the look is so nice. all shinney. no tune yet and i can feel a bit of a kick to it from start. nothing on the higher rpm. need a tune for it to get max potential

when u got your headers on did you notice more power in the lower end like off the line or at higher speeds when the turbo really kicks in?

Gruppe-S headers are unequal length, so the boxer rumble will be amplified. Both the Borlas, Gruppe-S, XX Tuning, and GT Spec(gen. 2) are extremely similar (unequal length 4-1). They yield almost the same power, and all are great quality.

XX Tuning ones are the cheapest of the bunch...and have good reviews, so my vote goes for them.

Our testing on our headers has shown surprising gains, especially on the 2.5L motors. Similarly, the more modified your motor, the greater gains you will see out of headers. Generally speaking, headers will mostly add upper end power and torque. On the 2.0L you might even see a slight loss of 1-2 WHP and 2-3 WTQ in the midrange that will be compensated for with a gain of 7-10 WHP and 10-15 WTQ up top. We feel that headers, especially at the price that they sell for now, are a worthwhile and good bang for the buck upgrade. Personally, I would put headers on my car over an intake or a BOV. Headers tend to make your exhaust note slightly louder, raspier, and deeper.

Why is there such a price difference on our headers? There are some that are $1100+ and others that are around $500 like Greddy's. Can someone please tell me why?

I personally do A LOT more driving in the low end of my RPM range than the top, so I'll take my power down low anyday.

For the price of headers IMHO your money is simply best spent somewhere else. If your car hasn't been custom tuned for it's mods, that's a great place to start. A custom tune is typically less than 500$, and i'm willing to bet you don't LOSE WHP I also think a good TMIC is a great mod for a stage 2 car. When i did rear sway bars and tires, it completely changed the way my car felt on the road.

just my .02$

I have gt-spec headers with the included up-pipe and the up-pipe was the alrgest diameter also out of all the aftermarket ones, and I did notice a difference when the boost does come on.

I have the borlas and I am starting to think that they aren't ceramic coated. I think it is just some hi-temp paint, come to think about it I think I read a post where it said that it was hi-temp paint.

my paint is starting to flake off at the collector pipe w/ my borlas. But i still love them.

if you have a decently modded car u will see gains. at least have a tbe.

check out maddads headers they are suposed to make no loss in the low end and more power in the mid range and a little less in the top end.
