Default Forester redesign?

When is the Forester due for a new body style? my gf is interested in one and I'm not crazy about the current looks. Kinda bland, though better than the majority of "SUV" out there.

Model year 2003. You can expect to see it at one of the main auto shows come spring, and then in dealerships probably about this time next year.

Automotive News says we'll see a turbo for 2004, so ask her to be patient!

"Not crazy about the current looks"? And you own a WRX?

If any of us had spy pix you could be sure they'd have been posted by now. Most of us are expecting a larger Forester that becomes more SUVlike than carlike, so as to reduce the overlap between the current Forester and the new Impreza wagons, especially the new OBS.

Ed

PS: j/k about the WRX - I've had WRX wagon envy for the last 5 months even though I've been happy with the Forester for a year and a half. If my Forester had a WRX drivetrain there'd be no envy at all.

Question

Hmm. I wonder if the upcoming Forester is going to have round headlights too. After all, it shares the Impreza platform, right? ;-)

Default argh.

Enuff with the round headlights BS. It's really getting old. Nobody complains about the lights on the Mercedes E-class.

Samirr, I agree. The WRX styling has grown on me and the headlights are more reminiscent of the MB and Porsches than the Neon that so many have compared it to disparagingly. In fact I sort of wish the WRX wagon had the bulged fenders of the sedan - after all, the Forester has small bulges in the fenders.

Okay, I don't want to see this devolve into a discussion of WRX styling, so to get back on point, yes, the Forester is slated for a MY03 restyling. No spy pix as of yet.

Can't wait to see spy pics oo ooh ooh! I could use an SUV in the family. I use that term loosely. I'm starting to actually detest the word SUV, because of the countless soccer mom's i see driving em...Just today i had to make this extra wide left turn becuase this old lady in a Lilcoln Navigator pulled halfway through the intersection instead of stopping at the line by the stop sign. WHY do you need to drive a Navigator to the grocery store....BY YOURSELF? Are you buying a YEARS worth of groceries? Sheesh i dont see why anybody needs anything larger than a Forester/RAV4/CR-v/etc. It just doesnt make sense unless you tow a 5,000lb trailer everyday.

I actually have people asking me what kind of Station Wagon my Forester is...

Of course, with the mods I've made, that's exactly what I was after... (If you don't know already, click the button to check out my site. Its worth it. )

Well the Forester is classified a wagon and not an SUV for insurance purposes, so your insurance is lower (yay). I think most states have an insurance surcharge on SUV's.

ANY SPY PICS? *drool*

Talking

I wonder if the upcoming Forester will keep the fender blisters that the WRX sedan borrowed from us!

Default Is this the new Forester??

I know some of you are regulars over at Edmunds but I didn't quite understand the the rendition of the new Forester that was posted and discussed over there last month. Was that an accurate portrayal of the new Forester?? Did it come from a reliable source? Didn't quite understand the reference. Somebody please explain. If that is an accurate rendition of the new Forester, then I like it!

Default ooops, sorry...

I should have posted the URL of the article but mistakenly just gave the page for the jpg.

http://mag-x.com/scoop/forester0109/index.html

Samirr76-- I thought you inferred that you liked your WRX's headlights? But yeah, I'd consider trading my Forester for the new one if this rendition is accurate. But we'll have to wait for juice, Ken or Ed to respond and confirm that this is from a reliable source. The view of the rear is sort of reminiscent of a Tribute though ...not that that is something bad .

And a newly developed boxer 4 engine based on the Lancaster's H6? ...what's that all about?? And a six-speed manual?? wow, I want one~!

Notice the smiley I used? --->

I was being facetious

I like the round headlights, but by the same token, I like to see variation along the different model lines, so that all cars don't look identical except for size *ahem*cough* BMW *cough*

Humm... I may not know Subaru's enought, but for quiet a long time, the licence plates were on the bumper. For me, that became a distinctive design. By looking at the pic, I see just another SUV.
---
From what I've heard, the knew Forester would be based on the Legacy platform. The our H6 is built here. So my guess is: new Forester->H6. Look at where the car is built to know what engine it will have. In that sence, turbo Legacy? Not in a while... sad

btw, I'm happy that my wagon doesn't have the fender.
