Default my cig lighter just stopped working :(

my cigarette lighter just stopped wroking. i tried to plug in an old power inverter and it shut itself off.

and then nothing else worked in the outlet.

I checked the proper and corresponding fuses and they were all good. In fact, the other devices which draw power (mirrors and the auto dimming mirror power which is hooked up to my v1 now) were fine.

what gives, mate?

There is an integral fuse in the lighter itself, that is probably blown. It's a thermal fuse, I believe, to prevent the socket from overheating. To check it you need to remove the lighter from the console, the fuse is on the rear of it. Should it be blown the proper fix is a new lighter, although you can bypass the fuse at your own risk.

Don't know if a universal replacement type will fit properly. A new one shouldn't be that much from Subaru, you can check with the online vendors here who are Subaru parts depts. Also check your local junkyards for a good used one, but take an ohmeter with you to make sure the one you pick is ok.
And don't use that same inverter again or the same thing will probably happen.

It could also be the small 20A accessory fuse in the internal fuse box. Top row, 4th from the left. Did your power mirrors / auto dimming mirror stop working as well?

do you know where the fuse box is on the driver side?

the fuse runs to your cig lighter also does your mirrors and rear view if you have the compass.

replace it with the spare fuse that is in the fuse box.

did you try that?

inside the center console cubby- 2 screws. Pull up the shifter surround, it just pops up. I think there are 2 screws under that holding down the cubby portion. pull up the cubby portion and unplug the wire harnesses.

It's been a while but I think I am pretty close on this. there might be some in better info in this forum or the audio one
