Unhappy this city is driving me MAD..........

is it a full moon or something, well besides the downtown east side monthly mardi-gras....

First off, the Molson INDY. What a pain in the arse, when is it leaving. My life now it turned into an absolute choas.... all the streets that I used to get in and out of town are closed or re-routed, which make my life a living hell. On top of that, all these re-routes are through heavy construction zones, so not only am I being severly detoured but also I have to wait in these mad construction zones. My car is always dirty and my gas consumption is through the roof. I havn't heard one word about which streets are going to be closed and when or when they are going to open again. GRRRRRRRRR.

where is the throw the INDY out of vancouver petition......... The valley can have it next year.

good riddance

OMG! You have to take a different route to work!!!! Gimmie a break. Unless you've attended the Molson Indy, you don't know what you're talking about. The Indy in the best thing there is to do in Vancouver. And you call yourself an automotive enthusiast

Late warning: there doing some funky road work on Knight St. bridge southbound. It was backed up all the way up the hill.

I've noticed a lot of people lately have started to like changing lanes and cutting me off right in front of me...

I think Indy should stay, it helps bring in the tourist to Vancouver. Vancouver will be a dead city if it loose indy. We almost lost every event due to complaints. These events are only a few day event. Roads always get re-routed, look at Lion's Gate Bridge.. Why not build a new bridge?? Because of complaints!

Just my thoughts..

Unhappy Move the indy out of town...

UnderAgeEnthusiast,

where do you live? victoria? what do you care, you come in for the weekend watch the indy and then leave, its just like the fireworks. All these people come flooding in, wreck everything, screw up traffic and then leav, not worrying about what happens. What drives me nuts are people who do this, people who are pro indy but don't live in the effected area!
Now please don't get me wrong, I like racing just as much as the next guy and I think that if we did lose the Indy it would be a blow to the tourism industry. What I am saying is that the downtown east side cannot support this race anymore. It should be moved to a different location, if it is that important to the tourism industry, why not build a track that would be able to support the indy, plus other racing events, both local and international. I think that if a track of international caliber was built for the purpose of hosting the indy it would do wonders for vancouver and the local vancouver racing culture. Now I know that one of the attractions is the race through city streets, but as I stated before this neighbourhood cannot support it anymore. Another thing, why is the indy in one of the poorest, most addicted and chronically ill hoods in all of canada? You would think that it would do better out at UBC or somewhere a little more, tourist friendly. But no, the community out there doesn't want it for the very reason that I am pissed that it is down here!.. too much noise, too much traffic and too many people. This answers why it is in this hood, because they city figures that the only people living down here are vagrants, bums and junkies and they can't complain because they aren't really party of society anyways.
This is something that I think the entire local racing community shoud address and start to get..... If we had an internationally know race track, the city of vancouver could bid for SCCA/CACC, Formula 1, world superbike, touring and GT class races on a regular basis and that would so much for a.) tourism and b.) the local racing culture.
Adding to the frustration is all the construction and street works going on...There is nothing like being detoured into a massive construction/street re-paving area.

I don't like being accused of not being a "automotive enthusiast" because I don't want the indy in Vancouver city. I don't like arguing on a BB either, so what I am suggesting is, read someones post properly before accusing them.

Default Changes over the past 12 years....

There have been alot of changes in the downtown area near the Indy track in the past 12 years. Most of these changes are the amount of people who now live and work in that area. I do like the idea of the Indy races comming to Vancouver, but I would rather have a purpose built street track for it, instead of them closing down public roads and racing on them.

LaterZ!
Darren!!

Post Indy info and my own gripes

Just some info on the Indy. First, all the street closure info is printed in the papers and I am sure can be found on the internet. Second, the reason that the race is downtown is because CART wants the race as a temporary road course in the downtown core and is not interested in having a purpose built track for it. I myself don't understand because I think that a permanent track would be great. Hell, grin and bare, it is only for a week. And as for construction, come out to South Surrey sometime and you will see what construction is. Every route out from my house is being mucked with. Never seen so much dirt in my life.

i second that, especially with those dashing scooters, batel nut chewing taxi drivers, and peope who in general don't give a damn about dinging up cars.

but, urban, i feel your pain, sort of. skytrain construction on lougheed is driving me nuts, as well as adding some battle scars to my car.

I second that Lougheed comment.. I can't take no more loose gravel and sand and what not.. and I hope they repave that damn road sometime.. those bumps and dips are very annoying..
