Default WRX Rotors on Legacy

I was checking out the upgrade of the front rotors to those of a WRX on an RS. Any idea if the WRX front rotors would fit under the Legacy's GT wheels?

AZ-GT - Yes you can,it'll fit, but you'll need to use new caliper brackets etc. The 11.7" rotor is the max size you can fit under the 16x6.5" wheel, Legacy GT or WRX.

Unless you are getting them for free, I'd suggest looking at aftermarket rotors instead. Politely put, the rotors on subaru's all around are made from some metal with the strength of butter. Get them sized right, and you won't need to make any other major modifications to the calipers or braking system in general.

Umm...

I swapped a set of these onto my 93 Touring Wagon with no problem, but it was the caliper and rotor set, not *just* rotors.

If you are considering new, stock-sized rotors, follow shirokuma's advice and get anything but Subaru.

I haven't had any problems, and in fact i'm very pleased with this setup, but i got them for a steal. Replacing 8-year-old 10.9s with brand new 11.4s and new calipers was a big difference. Adding SS brakelines didn't hurt either.

Default I just got my set

I got the complete set like DLC. Calipers, caliper brackets, rotors, and pads off a WRX. I havent had a chance to put them on yet but I hear its an easy swap. I think the rotors are supposed to be 11.4" not 11.7" and should fit under the Legacy GT wheels no problem. I actually havent seen them yet tho(I'm out of town right now.)

They're 11.4. All GTs, Outbacks and the WRX have these same brakes, so they should fit the 6.5" wide GT wheels just fine.

Default hmmm

I think the GT rotors are either 10.7 or 10.9" not 11.4". The 11.4" rotors are on the WRX and 2000+ OBs.

Lightbulb

The calipers are the same though, so wouldn't it be wiser to skip replacing the calipers with the exact same unit? Of course, if it's part of a really good deal, why not? In any case, all you would need for the swap is the rotor and caliper bracket. I suppose new pads to go with the rotors would be nice too.

i'm reading all of this and i'm completely lost!

i have 2000 legacy outback rotors and calipers for the front under 16" 2001 legacy gt wheels on our 95 ls wagon. everything works.

i was told late-model gt and outbacks have the same front 2-piston calipers and rotors. fairly sure the same applies for last-gen impreza 2.5rs. not sure about the wrx.

The Subaru literature lists the rotor sizes in the individual model brochures. I have the 2001s laying around.

Legacy L & GT
- 10.7F 11.3R
Outback & Outback LTD
- 11.4F 11.3R
H6 - 3.0 LLBean & VDC
- 11.4F 11.3R
Forester
L - 10.7F 9R (drum)
S & S Prem - 10.7F 10.3R
02 Impreza
2.5TS & Outback Sport - 10.7F 9R (drum)
2.5RS - 10.7F 10.3R
WRX - 11.4F 10.3R

Sorry, I don't have the GC8 or BD/BG brochures, but I'd guess that they're running 10.7F & 10.3R.

Default yes

Sorry, didnt mean to confuse anybody. AGs info is correct. The front calipers on the GT, RS, OB and WRX are the same(dual piston.) The WRX and OB have the 11.4" rotors and the RS and GT have 10.7" rotors.

I bought the whole kit because my Legacy L had 9.7" single pot front brakes. I needed to upgrade the WHOLE assembly.

Heres a link to the upgrade kit for the RS and GT(includes larger rotors and caliper brackets)

https://ssl.autocenter.net/webparts/...ipers_524.html

Hope this clears it up.

That's a good summary, AGscooby. I knew the newer Outbacks had bigger rear rotors, but I had never seen what the actual size comparison was between them and my '97 2.5GT. Hmmmm, I wonder if my dad would notice if I borrowed his 2001 Outback wagon and did a 4 wheel disc swap between our two cars?
