Angry Alarm beep on 05 STI weird?

According to the manual there's a way to turn on and off the beeping noise the alarm does everytime it locks or unlocks the doors... the weird thing is that the beep turns on and off like randomly (I don't think its me mispressing the buttons when the keys are in my pockets). Most of the times there will be a beep, and every once in a while it will be silent just to piss me off. The weird thing is that when the beep doesn't work, I follow the instructions in the manual to turn it on and it won't work... and soon enough it will start beeping again. Just weird. Anyone else has a similar issue with their Subaru alarm? Should I have the dealer check it out?

Since your car is an 05, take it back to the dealership. And try to duplicate the problem for them. Don't just drop the car off and pray for them to find the problem! Chances are you will get it back and it won't be fixed. Take time and talk to the technician that is going to be working on your car. Explain to them what is going on. That's the best thing you can do. And remember it is an intermittant problem. So you may not be able to get it to do it, but at least they will have it on record that you had it in the shop for that exact problem in case problems arise in the future.

Also make sure your alarm is not in valet mode. Are you trying to set the beeps with the door open?

Thsiao...prolly a loose wire somewhere.

other people: I know you can turn it on and off by holding down the unlock button for 5-10 seconds with the driver door open.

Loose wire? That's crazy for a car that is barely 1 year old isn't it?

This is a problem experienced by many owners.
Water gets in to the horn, located just behind the grille
and shorts it out!
Some dealers are familiar with the problem and
replace the affected part quickly, others not familiar
tend to be somewhat reluctant to do so until they
experience the trouble first hand.
If you perform a search, you will read the threads
concerning this issue.
Hope this helps.
Ride Safe.

Defective electronics..... The beeper is behind the grill on the left side. I pulled mine off and cleaned the contacts hoping that would help but, it didn't. It's an internal problem that seems to be very common. Not sure if it's from water or road vibration / dropping the hood.

I've been to lazy to take it to the dealer.
