Question WOW...this is really strange???

okay here's the deal...

almost 2 months ago i installed a new stromung catback exhaust and a helix catless downpipe. i bought the dp from gruppe-s and they included the free o2 cell fix. we never installed it that day beacuse there was no time, so naturally the check engine light came on a few days later.

i also bought a helix uppipe from gruppe-s and about 2 weeks later we installed that. we didn't install the cell fix again because there was no time.

i have now been running the uppipe for about a month and i never installed the cell fix because the check engine light never came on. now today i go out for a mountain drive on the twisties with my friend and towards the end of the drive BAM the check engine light comes on...we did a spot check when i got back to my house and everything is fine. im just really confused as to why the car would just now after A MONTH be recognizing the new exhaust component.

what triggered the check engine light to come on so late? was it cause of the hard drive? could it be something else wrong with the car? im really confused...

thanks

Did you pull the code yet? Most likely its a exhuast temp out of range from your uppipe and hard driving.

Thats pretty nuts your car didnt throw a cel for the catless exhaust earlier, do you have a AP or something because that eliminates the exhaust cels

im not really sure what pulling the code is? mind explaining?

im just comletely confused as to why it took a month for the ecu to recognize the new exhaust components...i would understand more if it were a few days, but a month?

im really hoping it's nothing else. my friend just said it's prollu cause we were driving the car so rough for an extended period of time, he actually thought the engine was just a bit overheated...

Pulling the code mean pluging up a check engine light reader into your ob2 plug under your dash and seeing what the trouble codes are exactly. If you dont have an 0b2 reader you can go to autozone or advanced auto they have them there that they let you use for free, its important to know what exactly the codes are so you know if something bad happend.

ah dont flame him too hard hahah

for your CEL problem... If you pull the code and its the rear O2... i wouldnt be supprised that it took that long to pop a cel. When I installed my turbo-back system on my 02 it took about 2 weeks to throw a CEL, when it did, it stayed for another 2 weeks, then went off... Its just touchy...

However, You said you did up-pipe and still didnt do the 02 fix, did you do the EGT fix or did the up-pipe you have come with the bung? I would be amazed that it took a month to pull a code from the EGT

This happened to a couple people that I know.

They never installed their o2 cell fixes either and got a CEL a couple weeks later. My guess is that since you've been driving hard, the ECU just recognized there is something wrong with your exhaust. Or maybe just from driving hard...it triggered a CEL?

actually bud, i know how to install a cell fix...

the cell fix i have is not a screw-in part is a wire replacement that needs to be soldered to the existing cell. and when i didn't have time it was because we started the install wayyy to late and it was around 2am, so all i was interested in doing is hearing the exhaust and going to bed.

this forum is to ask other people about working on cars, not to be insulted by people you dont even know...
