Hi guys!
What do yo think of the Elemnet Hydra and the Autronic? Do you think the Hydra is a lot mature now over the autronic? Since Element is mainly a Subaru tuner company, whats benefits are there for novice tuners like myself w/ hardly any tuning knowledge and would prefer to use the AutoTune feature? Is the AutoTune feature adequate or lack the maturity, since the Hydra is fairly new? Do you have fine control over AVCS? Can it work with Automatic WRX's? Back to AutoTune, can the Hydra work on par with the OEM, or the OEM is just to advance? Thanks guys.

im pretty sure the hydra isnt new, element tuning just sells hydras with thier name for the subaru, but hydra itself has been around.

I feel the auto tune plus a good base map work really well. you can have a pretty nice tune in about an hour of driving on a uncrowded road.
the hydra can control the avcs and just about everything else you can throw at it. it just keeps getting better, I am very glad I bought the hydra . Later Jeff |

The thing is, that it is not to far price from the other ecus like autronic and motec.
The thing I like about it that it seems subaruish. There seems to be a nice community who have it and good support in software and so on. The subaru ecu is fantastic. The best in the world I think. All of there cars benefit from it. Here where I live, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi cannot compare in ecu learning. I bragged a lot about my ecu with the others. It take my ecu a couple of minutes to learn and smooth learning a couple of hours to days. The others, weeks LOL.I am thinking about getting it and have contacted Element on this. I like the AutoTune feature and it will get better. I have the strangest feeling that this company is some what have a relationship to Motec. Motec >> Autronic >> Hydra Do you guys have any problems right now w/ it that you cannot wait for a software upgrade? Also, why does it take a longer time to start compare to the oem one? |

I was trying to think of reasons, but you are correct. Most probably DBW and maybe AVCS.
I will have to wait from them to see. |

the wrx hydra supports AVCS, so i would think DBW as well.

Try giving Pat Richard at Rocket Rally a call. (http://www.rocketrally.com/) He has used the Autronic in a number of setups and is pretty knowledgeable about it.
It depends which autronic you are comparing to the hydra...if you want AVCS control you will have to get the SM4. To get the autotune to work on the Autronic you will also have to calibrate your o2 sensor, that is unless you want to buy the o2 sensor from Autronics which happens to be very pricey. I personally think the Autronic is a great ecu, but definitely not for 99% of applications. Talk to Rocket Rally and then make your decision. Best of luck. Louis www.dentsport.com 781-551-3399 |

Thanks a lot.
I have been research autronic for 2 years now - crossover from Toyota to Subaru, but was always subaru until I really started to drive the L series way back, realising that it was a better platform, years ahead of its time. |

I spoke to Phil today and I am impress.
My only problem is that I have an auto. There can be support, but because Element Tuning to not have Auto's to test, there are no controls for the Auto when shifting. I guess that I can work with him later to resolve this. But guys, I am very very impress with this product. If I do buy it, which will be next year, I will be having the new version that will be coming out later this year. I thank everyone for their input. Best of luck. |

Maybe you should tune the auto shifts and supply the map others. I'm sure Phil can get you started, the rest is tuning.

Its a little more than that. THere need to be inputs, which I guess is not difficult, then how the software handle it before mapping can begin.
If that happens, then Phil will have the maps. ![]() |
