Post oil cooler worth it?

Have an Impreza 2.5L RS my01 and am considering adding an oil cooler. Would the cooler lower the oil pressure? Is it worth it? Would also like an oil pressure gauge, but don't want the idiot light on constantly if I bypass the original sensor. Thanks.

Not unless the car is run in competitive events more demanding than auto-x that really get engine temps up, or if you tow with it or something. In other words, if you treat it like a normal car, you probably don't need an oil cooler. It definitely won't hurt! But save the cash.

you can drill and tap the plug with the allen head on it next to the bell housing rubber cap .put a 1-8 pipe on it and you can use it for turbo feed also.see ya steve

I believe it will lower oil temp not pressure. Here is info on the OEM oil cooler I have:

Yeah, it will lower the oil temp, but not the pressure. And, the idiot light will not come on unless the oil is at extremely low pressure (5psi or less). It's been said that by the time the oil warning light come on, your engine is half gone.

As for do you really need it? Not unless your driving is very hard (i.e. a lot of racing and rallying). Oil cooler is not on my "I must get it" list.

if you car is an AT and you are racing it in any way... i'd recommend it... that and a tranny cooler...

if a 5sp... well it cant hurt, but you dont really need it...

From my experience (turbocharged 2.5L), the oil cooler is not really needed. I've done track days and haven't seen my oil temp above 220F (max).

I put one in my car when I went turbo mainly because the OEM oil cooler was really cheap through my dealership and I figured it couldn't hurt. One advantage that no one mentioned, is that with the OEM coolent cooled oil cooler, the coolent warms up quicker and then helps the oil warm up quicker and then at one point reverse oil kept cooler.
