Default popping noise coming from my Perrin Short Ram

I have been experiencing a periodic popping noise coming from my Perrin Short Ram Non-Big MAF when I rev-match down shift, the noise is a light pop and then the engine bogs lightly. It does not happen very often and there is no cell light, I have a 05 WRX and I do not have any other mods and this was my first engine modification.

What is this sound that I am experiencing and what is the cause?

Thank you,

~Steve~

it's your rear diff smacking the cross member... stiffer tranny mounts will lessen/fix this... or turn up the radio

I do not believe that it is part of the tranny... I have had the hood up and lightly revved the engine and had the sound occur and it is coming from the intake tube.

I do not believe that it is rattling either... I have been doing some searching on the forums and I think that it might be at some times the cars air/fuel ratio is off and making the car run lean or rich. One of my buddies bought a Perrin Short Ram Big MAF and he installed it not knowing that the intake was NOT designed to work with the stock ECU and turbo, when we started it up for the first time the car ran like $h!t. we drove around the block and herd the same popping sound that my car is making, but his was much more frequent where mine has only done it like 7 or 8 times over the last 4 or 5 months. My main concern is if my car is running lean or rich what is the long term effects of this and should I put my stock air box back in to prevent this from happing.

Thank you all for responses and help,

~Steve~

I'm getting that same popping noise and it started after I installed my Perrin IC hoses. How do I stop the popping? Is it linked to the A/F Ratio?

A/F changes I wouldn't expect to make noise through the intake. My guess (just a guess) would be a leak past the MAF or a stuck BOV making noises that maybe just weren't heard before with the stock intake snorkel.

hell yea Jaxrex, I live in south jax and like to surf at 37th south & 9th north. I went to Costa Rica last year and stayed at nosara on the north coast just south of tamarindo, where in Costa did you stay and how was the surf?

also if you would like to go to a suby meet, me and some buddies meet up at Tinseltown on the last Thursday of the month at around 6:30 or 7:00. or shoot me a PM

If I see you around the beach Iíll give you a shout.
