Default some help please idle issues(I've searched, trust me)

For the past couple weeks, I've been throwing p1507, idle speed control. I've been skimming by, not doing anything about it. The last time, I threw p0122 (TPS low-input) as well. I decided to try and clean the IAC as intructed by people on here and past threads. The problem is that the pictures/instructions were for new age engines...not my 98 rs.

So, I took off what I think is the TPS, inspect, don't really know what I'm doing, and put it back on. At the same time I took off what could be the IAC (however, it was just the top part, not the part that actually has air flowing through) Nothing out of the ordinary. I screwed both pieces back into place, reconnected all the wires, etc. Now, when I start up, I have an extremely erratic idle, and it never calms down, just keeps revving and sounding horrible.

Does anyone have suggestions of what may be causing it? Idle was fine before I started messing around with it. Also, can anyone show me exactly where the IAC and TPS pieces are on my engine?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks, LUKE

Nobody has any suggestions...

I'm researching alongside of you. Mines a WRX, though, but what I've done so far is looked for leaks in the intake tract, I put together a DIY tool to fill up my intake tract with air to see if I can hear or see leaks (with some soapy water) [do a search for Kingtut on here], properly adjusted throttle cable (I had it misadjusted), ordered gasket for the IACV so I can clean it....still searching.

i have a ****ty idle aswell and have been told to clean the IACV but i couldnt find the damn thing on the 98. i did find it but it is near impossible to get off the engine. it is where the large hose on the intake conects from the airbox to the engine right below the PCV valve there will be a white thing with wires coming out. it is the Idle air control selunoid

If your idle is kinda bouncing, it sounds to me like the TPS is bad, and/or check for vacuum leaks. If the idle spikes then dies or hardly goes up at all, it seems to be the IAC. These things ive had problems with my engine swap, so maybe they'll direct you in a general direction.

After I installed the cruise control cable thingy, steering controller and the on/off switch, drove it around a bit then as I gased it this once, you know how you'd gas it a bit more and it'll knock once before the engine revving up, well after this I came to a stop sign and the engine almost died. It's threw the IAC code.

I dunno if the cruise control without the Cruise Control UNIT caused it or that it just happend...... I put on a '99 RS IAC thingy and pluged it with my harness, the engine would stay at 1900rpms all the time and sometimes at 1400rpms. At times it'd go up to 4k rpms! I switched back to the '99 L one. I'm thinking of just buying a new one if it doesn't work after I reset the ECU; overnight negative terminal from battery off.

UPDATE: It seems to be holding well now. I did unplug one or two of the ECU plugs with the battery terminal still connected. So maybe that might have caused it to do this....but it's doing fine now. weird....

haha...yes i reset the ecu and all that when i cleaned the IAC. Turns out my intake gasket was blown, which is pretty rare i think. It probly stemmed from when i ran out of gas. I got lots of backfires, etc. when that happened. CEL right after that.

thanks anyway guys
