Default 3 sightings on the drive home (Ottawa)

Three today on the drive home, all in the west end.

2 lads in black RS coupe turning west onto Baseline from
Shoppers City West. Got a wave in

A woman with short hair in a WRB RS coup on Woodroffe
heading north. Didn't see me

A silver WRX wagon pulling onto Greenbank in Barrhaven
Seemed too preoccupied to wave.

Is it me or a lot of the RS/WRX/TS drivers in town not too friendly?
I am new to the Subaru thing, but I like the comradery that I
haven't seen since I rode a sport bike ten years ago.

Cool

Most Impreza drivers (regardless of powerplant) are pretty kewl.

There are the occaisional few who don't understand the "brotherhood", but that can be expected...

Sometimes though, it's just that they don't see the other Sube until it's too late to wave (this has happened to me a couple of times...)

But there've been a few people who deliberately ignore me... I've seen the same car a few times and always wave, but they're off in their own little world. Annoying - it's not like a white RS is hard to miss...

Just keep waving though... eventually they'll figure it out.

Cheers,
Kevin

I think that Ottawa has it's own eccentricity when it comes to
being friendly. It seems that most people here are pretty self
absorbed and/or conservative. I think the fact that this is a
middle income or better gov't/tech town has a lot to do with it
too. People buy WRXs (and A4s and 330s etc) because they have
a good amount of disposable income to throw around, not
necessarily because they are enthusiasts.

I'll keep waving though..

I was the the one in the Black RS going onto baseline. After waving, my brother in law (in shotgun) asked if I knew you. I said I didn't but told him its a subie thing and he was empressed. He thought is was a nice change since there is enough road rage freaks and punks in tricked out Hondas trying to be tough.

Hey SubaruStu...this is really uncalled for. I do not have a good amount of disposable income to throw around. I am stretched pretty thin too after getting the WRX but I am still very happy with my purchase because I believe I am an enthusiast. In fact I am one of the few lucky ones that got possession of the car back in early April.

I hope you won't be too discouraged by the lack of response from fellow Ottawa subie drivers. Sometimes it is hard to wave back etc while "concentrating" on driving...especially when turning onto a main road and trying to merge, etc...

I also hope you would not stereotype WRX drivers the way you did. I, for one, know that I do not fit in that category....can't say much about those A4 drivers though... (just kidding)(just kidding)

Don't get me wrong here. I am not saying that every WRX (A4
etc) is a spoiled kid or anything. I am just relating my observation
that Ottawa has a fairly high amount of visible consumption or
materialism. I think that there a lot of people who go out and buy
a nice car because they can, not because they truly appreciate
what it is they 've got versus people buying a car because it is
a performance car. These are often the same people who stare
at you blankly when you wave because they cannot make the
connection. One certainly cannot fault someone for not waving
if they are busy keeping an eye on the road.

Keep waving!

It will come in time..... they're just newbies and don't know what others do (waving)..... It's the same unwritten rules with motorcycles... they all wave to each other.....

Next time, keep on waving and hopefully they'll start to wave back...

STI RDY, do you work downtown? I work at Place de Ville (Tower C) (there's a silver 02 WRX wagon that parks here) and I'm starting to see lots of Subarus around.....

When I'm driving my 99RS (silver), I never see anyone else....

Oh well......

SubaruStu - I know what you mean, really. Just want to point out that there are some who buy the WRX for what it is worth too. No offence. I am around the Greenbank/Barrhaven area a lot, so I will keep my eyes peeled for a BRP RS and wave at ya!

Robin - No, I don't work in downtown. I spend most of my time in the west end...

Yeah, you'll get a few that do wave and some that won't.

But that's alright, keep waving.

Especially to those folks in their riced Hondas.. wave bye bye.

Snicker

In case you have to pick me out of a crowd of RS's, I have a Thule
rack and fairing and my daily commute is between Barrhaven and
Mechanicsville (shudder) - Merivale-Carling-Parkdale-Wellington.
