Post OFFICIAL: Use of the New Logo; PLEASE READ

Yes I know I used caps in the subject... but this is one of those times that needs it.

Alright guys,
I have already seen a few posts in threads... so I'm just gonna address it in a new thread.

<FONT COLOR="red">The use of the iClub logo is specifically prohibited, unless permission is explicitly given by both Alex and myself.</FONT c>

I'm addressing this because I have already seen people talking about printing up their own shirts and other things with the logo on it. Please don't.

Allowing us to manufacture and sell the iClub merchandise to you as members is what will help get us the money to improve the club get to start doing new things for the club, like contests, giveaways, and just more member services in general.

So just to state one more time... the iClub logo is in fact copyright and protected. Please DO NOT print it on anything.

Thanks,
-Nick

Just a thought here, you could use the poll function to figure out what is going to work best and be the most cost effective. For instance, there's no sense in printing up 500 shirts that are going to sell at $35/ea. when only 40 people are going to want to pay that much, but then to print only 40 or 50 would mean selling at $50/ea.

Maybe a new question every other day:

Would you seriosly purchase an Iclub Tshirt?

What range are you willing to pay for an Iclub Tshirt?

Would you like to buy Iclub bumperstickers? Could you give an estimate of how many you'll want in the comments section.

Stuff along those lines... Makes sense to use all your tools to best satisfy the as much of your target market as possible.

Question

Guys,

Not trying to be a wet noodle but have you trademarked the name "i-club" and the logo? If not it'd be a good idea, especially if you look to make and sell logo items. It's also a good idea to seek permission from trademark holders before you make and sell items using their trademarked logo. For example, I note in the linked thread about the gauge faces this comment:

"i am planning on doing the STi ones and also a prodrive one"

Have you gotten permission from FHI/STi and Prodrive to do these?

Ed

PS (edit: ) I just searched the USPTO trademark database at http://tess.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess=btvdav.1.1 and I don't see an application filed. It's worth noting that FHI registered the trademark "Impreza" in April of 1994.

I have no comment on the gauges i am making with STi logo and there will be no prodrive one, but i have talked to nick about the i-Club gauges and waiting on his aproval, they are finished in design and a matter of a fact i have one on my car right now with the permission from Nick, but only Nick has seen what it looks like, If i do go through with this with Nick, they will only be sold on the online store and will be a limited run of them, Waiting on Nick and Alex's aproval of the use and i will have them done in no time.

Have a Nice Day?

ImprezedRS,

I don't want to get you in trouble with anyone, just wanted to give you some advice on how to stay out of trouble. I've dealt with trademark lawyers and have filed several trademark applications so I know how nasty these things can get.

If the i-club guys want to make some money off the logo, then it's in their best interest to trademark it. Not that expensive and they can probably recoup the costs quickly.

You should put together some sort of official banners (several sizes) for people to use to link to this site.

Audi has a history of sending vicious, "we'll sue you for everything you've got!" letters to anyone using any Audi trademarks on shirts, floormats, etc. Subaru doesn't seem to mind much when ISR makes floor mats, and it seems everybody and their brother makes Subaru or STi stickers, t-shirts, etc.

VW and Audi are a$$holes about there logos, I had a VW one on the back of my window and took into the dealership and there happened to be a rep there and they said something about it and said that i needed to take it off and all this other bs, but Nick and Alex think about my offer and maybe i could call one of you all on it and figure out something.
