Poison, question here. I had your Torro and Shakiso, love Torro only wish it has a slightly heavier body, but Shakiso isn't something for me (should have known Ethiopian is high on the acidity side, but its aroma is just great). I mostly do espresso shots and occasionally macchiato, will either Kona or Los Caracoles be better choices for my preference on heavier body and lower acidity taste?

Thanks, will like to order some sample packs, too, and can wait till whenever shipping is available, so after the holidays is ok.

H20, Sulawesi is your coffee. It's the rare clean Indonesian with mild, tasty acidity as a SO espresso. VERY nice stuff. You can order any time, and it'll go out pretty quickly, I'll be roasting more or less as usual throughout the holidays.

Lol, first crack will be way bright, maestro. I'm looking at around 1 minute before second crack, pulling it at 14-16 minutes, depending on the coffee.

So, this might be semi-blasphemous in here, but are there any super-auto espresso machines that are worth owning?

We're pretty set for normal brewed coffee in my house, but my wife has a "Starbucks a day" espresso (latte) habit. I refuse to pay $5 for a cup of coffee, so I do without.

I've hinted at getting an espresso machine a few times in the past year or so, and my wife has made it abundantly clear that she's not interested unless it's a super-auto type where whole beans go in the top, and coffee comes out the bottom. My impression is that super-autos are not very well regarded by people into coffee, but in the interests of marital harmony (or at least not buying $500 worth of coffee stuff my wife refuses to use), I've decided I should do a little more research on the matter.

So, poison/OT, what say you on the topic of super-auto espresso machines?

I'm not up on them, but I know Jura and Saeco are well-regarded. Costco has em, but honestly, call www.1st-line.com or www.chriscoffee.com and ask. Good guys who will treat you right.

I know it's more of a PITA for you, and I'm probably in the minority here, but in general, I'd rather order 4 1/2 lb bags of coffee than 2 1 lb pound bags of coffee just for the added variety. 2 lbs is about the limit of how long the coffee will stay fresh before I run out with my frequency of consumption, but I like choices.

For what I'd be looking at, even if you had 1/2 lb options on the ordering that would be slightly more expensive per lb than the equivalent 1 lb option, I'd rather go that route.

the problem is, I can't roast 1/2lb at a time. Minimum is one lb. So I would have to set a bi-monthly or weekly roast date, and hope at least two people ordered every time. Worth it?

Do it "groupon" style. Take orders for end-of-month 1/2lb roastings with the caveat that they will only be fulfilled if a minimum number of people place their orders for that month. Of course, an informative notice indicating the status of the orders would be sent out.

No no no, fool. You only charge them if you fulfill the order. For example, the end of the month rolls around. You look at the orders that come in and see that there was only one 1/2lb order for La Costa Mosta Yum-Yum, so you email the guy and say, sorry--not this month. But you see that you have 5 orders for Suma Numa Gahm-Gahm. So you roast 2 1/2 pounds of it, charge the people who ordered it, and send it out.

How about Bangkok?

I would be all for this, or, now knowing the logistics of it better, keep the sample pack idea, and roast an extra 1/2 pound with the other orders that you get.

Sounds like potential for headaches; customers don't read fine print.

Bangkok sounds great. I do not check the lady-boys, that's on you.
