Haha, I saw it on uncrate. Robusta isn't the tastiest stuff, unless they are very careful.

Can I get some grinder suggestions to use with a Chemex carafe and/or a refillable Ekobrew K-Cup.

If I store the beans in something like the Friis Coffe Vault, how long will they remain fresh or at least K-Cup destroying fresh? I'd be grinding the beans only when I go to use them. I generally only drink 1-2 cups a day on the weekends.

Something like my Capresso Infinity would be perfect for that.

Capresso Infinity from Bed Bath & beyond with a 20% off coupon = $75 or so. Keep in mind I prefer Baratza, but their grinder is $120 or so, the Encore. it is better quality, and Baratza is an AWESOME company to deal with.

Freeze your beans, and remove the weekends beans on, say, Fri night so they thaw. You could even divvy the beans up in small ziplocks and freeze em, so you just have to pull a ziplock out, and don't have condensation forming on the beans you put back in the freezer.

Thanks, markman and poison. This is exactly what I always do. I haven't decided on anything yet as far as a Keurig replacement, because I will take your suggestion or what I should have done in the first place and turn it into $200.00+ worth of Clever / Chemix carafes, thermometer, kettle, Baratza grinder, storage methods, possibly a scale of some sort and last but not least, good coffee.

I think that's why I went the $80.00 Mr. Coffee brewer... It's not the cost, but it's a different level of preparing something "simple" such as coffee.

Okay, I pulled the trigger, Chemex glass handle carafe and their filters, thermometer, glass kettle, digital scale and a Baratza Encore grinder.

Now for the coffee - poison, do you still have the Colombia Tolima Herrera in stock?

Edit#2: Ordered anyway.

Java Kopi Sunda! Glad you got it, let me know how it goes, and whether you'll be returning to Mr Keurig.

Very cool. Hope you get lots of new customers.

I was wondering if anyone has tips for cold brew?

I have a well-meaning friend that knows how much I like coffee. So in return for helping with her dogs, I got a lb of coffee. Made the mistake of saying it was a little light (being nice, but trying not to get more). She went back again and got me a pound of their strongest blend. I got a bag of oily coal bits that used to be Ethiopian and Brazilian beans. Figured I would try it as cold press and have some iced coffee.

First cup of actual coffee. It's definitely an improvement in richness and flavor, but not too strong, bold, burnt tasting or anything like that.

I need to refine my grounds to water ratio, but first impressions are enjoyable. I like that I can control the strength which is a major problem of the Keurig type brewers. There are only a few 'medium' style roasts that are also bold in flavor (by their definition).

I did 4 decent sized tablespoons of beans (ground to 16 on the Encore) to about 16 ounces of water, it's not super exact, but it seems pretty good.

I tried a small sample - black, just to taste the flavors, but I still prefer a small amount of 2% milk, which I did end up adding. Drinking my 'normal' style and quantity will provide a better comparison.

The Encore is pretty cool, I was ??? with the 2 on/off switch positions. That must be a feature for busy shops or restaurants that can have anyone from the staff just start grinding...?
