Coffee related, and a funny story. The shutoff valve in the Bunn at work apparently broke sometime Sunday/ Sunday night and we came in Monday morning to several hundred gallons of water in the building from the water line running to the machine. Luckily my office is uphill apparently from that.

Personally, I prefer the Clever over the Aeropress, unless you want to make faux latte's, in which case the stronger brew of the Aeropress is idea.
I placed an order with Sweet Maria's for their Clever kit with the Hario slim, also picked up a pound of some coffee . Probably won't get here by Saturday .

The clever is a complete coup in advancement of brewing, IMO. Absolute genius. Post up when you get it and use it!

Do you have a roaster? or did you order already roasted coffee? I know that their pre-roasted coffees are very limited.

Can't be alone out here... I started buying beans at the local Caribou because they guaranteed that they were less than a month old, then from you (you bastard ) then I received a air-roaster for xmas, and after nearly a year with that, I dropped it and broke the glass chamber, so now I have a Gene Cafe.

Looks like a great deal. My wife has been bugging me to get a replacement FP for the one she broke a couple of years ago.

Stainless? I really enjoy mine.

Nate, I took my 2nd bag out of the freezer a few days ago, but it might be almost a week before I get to open it up. Should I leave it out now though instead of re-freezing?

And I got a K cup for a good deal free (no flaming). But it did also come with the use your own coffee adapter, so next time I might look at something to use at work, which is where I have it for now.

lol, ptirmal.Good job!

340Duster, if you use it within 2-3 weeks of taking it out, you should be OK. Or not, you'll know when you do it.

Straighten me out here:
I've heard not to go less than the MDF or Rocky for espresso grind, and then others say they do fine with the Capresso infinity. (Just for reference I'm currently using a Hario Mini Mill and Gaggia Pure.) Now, I realize there is a lot of subjectivity here, but can anyone chime in?

I use my infinity for my Delonghi machine. It works well. I have to hold it to grind in between 2 of the settings but the results are great and almost completely consistent in grind.

It is possible to use a baratza encore or capresso infinity, but...the grinder will be a very limiting factor, and upgrading is a mind-blowing experience. I would either get the Encore, instead of the capresso, or the Baratza Preciso, or the Cunill Tranquilo. I would avoid the MDF. Rocky is OK.

Or, start watching ebay for a Rancilio MD-50/40 or a Mazzer Mini/SuperJolly/Robur, or any number of professional level grinders. A used one will cost about as much as a new GOOD home grinder and will last until the second coming.

That's how I got my Rancilio MD-50

Used super jolly's are $300-400 used. But they are big. Another good place to look is the coffeegeek classifieds.

It is indeed super-subjective. Personally, I've had great luck with the Bodum Cafe grinder. It's a relatively inexpensive burr grinder ($80 or so), but grinds evenly, has step less adjustments, and can grind fine enough to choke my Gaggia. When i get all the steps right, i get fabulous, rich espresso and consistent quality. At the coarsest setting, the coffee is just coarse enough to French press without too much mud in your cup.

I know, the usual coffee geek response is to spend $bank on a grinder, but my expensive burr grinder works great for me.

Honestly, it's not subjective at all. If you pulled shots with a mazzer, or wbc grinder, back to back with your Bodum, you would see an easily discernible, massive difference. Going g from my baratza maestro plus to the super jolly was crazy. My first shot blew my mind. Why? More even grind particle size and fewer fines. This equals a more even extraction with less over extraction, and less bitter off flavors.

That's what you get when you buy a better grinder, in addition to better build quality and longevity: tighter tolerances that increase grind particle evenness. The grinder is more important than the machine, without question. I always tell beginners to buy the cheapest gaggia they can find, and the most expensive grinder they can afford.
