Default UTEC last knock event

is there any way to know how big of a knock event it was?

does the "knock correction" give it away (ie if it is 16, it was bad, if it is 2.5 not so bad?)

I get this in my dashboard every now and again, but am pretty sure it's just my noisy pistons. I have my threshold set to 2 and the CEL doesn't blink unless it is a 2 or bigger.

I really wonder though if I am just missing a big knock event, or if it is just the little CP piston 1 count... (I am leaning strongly to the latter, since i am only running about 10 psi, rich, and 16 - 18 degrees of timing).

If you set your sensitivity to 2 you aren't missing a large knock event, only a 1 count. You can measure how many events you missed with your settings for timing pull, count, duration ect. I wish it kept a whole log line not just the 3 parameters.

Three parameters in the UTEC...

Timing retard step - ammount to pull on each knock event past threshold
Timing max retard - max ammount to pull as a sum of events for the above event
Timing knock window time - how long before it will make another adjustment (minutes)

So say you have default values: .5, 5, 5 respectively. If you check your dashboard and it lists knock correction as 2 degrees you know that you had 4 seperate knock events that were at least 5 minutes apart from eachother but possibly more that occured within 5 minutes of eachother. You also know they were a severity of 2 or more. If you have 5* correction you know that you had at a minimum of 10 "groups" each 5 minutes from eachother.

Edit: *(@#*E(@##(*&@(#*$# NASIOC is so messed up with the out of order posts. This is in response to the question "expand..."

ooh, can you expand on this a little?

I am having a hard time visualizing. The Benadryl isn't helping either...

ok I am beginning to understand.

how about the parameter for CEL Knock Threshold. I have it set for 2 as well as the Knock Count Threshold (4 parameters up).

my CEL NEVER flashed during a pull, but I still get the knock event data in my UTEC Dashboard. that is what made me think it is one-counts.

Are you sure it takes more than your threshold for it to be captured in Dashboard? (ie more than 2 in my case???).

Thanks!

The dashboard will capture the last knock event even if it doesn't pull timing or flash the CEL.

right. and there is danger here!

I went out and did some spirited driving, and due to noisy pistons get 01 counts all over the place.

The UTEC pulls the timing in .5 degree incremements to -5, even tough the CEL is not flashing, and the 01 counts are below my threshold.

Well, now I'm in a long 4 th gear pull, and only running 10 or 11 degrees of timing, causing my EGT's to shoot towards 850-900 OMFG!!! and I'm only running 12 psi (wastegate boost).

so while I was getting gas I turned the timing retard step to 0. I do not need warped heads!!!

Anyway, glad I figured that out...
