Exclamation Car cuts off- total loss of power for ~1 second, then resumes

OK, this intermittant, extremely difficult to reproduce electrical gremlin has me totally stumped. It has been an on/off issue and I can't recall when it started or what mod I may have done to cause this. Here's the scenario:

While at idle, or when driving (doesn't seem to matter), the lights and power will go out for a split second and then resume. I have attempted to locate the issue by ruling out other power sources by turning off the radio, lights, etc. and to no avail- or so it would seem. The issue comes and goes in odd increments- it may not happen again for 2-3 months. Issue last happened 4 times w/in a 30 minute time frame a couple of nights ago just sitting at idle. Gauges resweep- engine dies and restarts- all w/in about a second.

Battery meter says I am getting a constant 13.6V +/- .3V, so everything looks good there. Battery is an Odyssey PC680 and is in the car- no corrosion and terminals are in good shape. I have checked all fuses and a lot of the car wiring. I do have a few electrical mods such as the following:

1 time keyless entry (all 4 doors open with key fob)
DRL's disconnected (removal of DRL module)
I/C water spray setup
headlight levelers
Defi Link meter gauges
Alpine headunit- Sirius tuner
Fog lamps and switch removed
trunk battery relocation

I am inclined to think the issue is heat related- as it seems when the car is pretty hot- the issue occurs. I am wondering if there is a weak relay somewhere or if I have a really odd grounding issue. I did have one odd issue that may or may not be related to this issue- I did blow my 70A fuse at the battery when I went to the store and unlocked the car and tried to start it; heard a click (fuse popping) and no power at all. Replaced the fuse with a spare and it started up, no further issues in this regards.

Sorry if all my info seems a bit sporadic- I am trying to be as detailed as possible while providing a good description of my issue. I appreciate any and all assistance.

Also of note: the lights in the dash, and LCD's for my EBC and R-VIT seem to "flicker" so maybe the issue is in fact a ground issue- esp. since the Scoobs are well known for needing grounds all over the car...

dude that sucks. Sell it!

I'm not sure ill think of something.

Chuck

Relay I would say, seems to be the best bet. Check the harness?
i guess i would think to do this.

Get another exact subaru wagon, Trade all fuses and relays.

Then see if it happens to him. and see if anything happeneds to your car.

Chuck

PS email pics of those wheels i think i might have them sold.

Mine did that too!!!

Mine happened occasionally when I would tap the brake. The lights would flicker, radio restart and my EGT gauge needle would jump. I also tried to turn off all extra electrical stuff but that didn't make a difference.

I dont know if its been resolved yet but I have yet to have a re-occurance since I removed my grounding mod. I had the mod on there for 2 years. Its been a month since it happened.

Don't have any grounding mods per se- I have the normal grounds- which I checked and they all seem good to go. My grounds with my battery relocate are as such: Ground to the starter to the driver side strut tower; ground to the battery to the floor pan in the spare tire well. One thing of note is that on my PC680- the negative battery terminal "spins" while the cable is securely attached. The positive terminal is screwed in and does not move. Perhaps this negative terminal is the cause? I'll contact Odyssey and see what they say.

OK, just called Odyssey and they say that they are 99% sure that the loose terminal is my issue due to the intermittant charging and loss of ground at the battery. They indicate that the terminals on the PC 680 can often get loose internally and he described how to go about fixing this. I'll report back if I get the issue solved

Tightened up the terminal and now just waiting to see if in fact this does correct the issue. Hope so
