Default Help! Need help with swapping ej257 into MY00

Ok, a few of you know me but most don't. Let me start by telling you I built my ej25 rs block for boost. I used aebs wet sleeves, forged rods, pistons, etc. Everything was replaced with aftermarket or brand new parts. Well the engine is capable of holding 35+psi of boost, it is only 4 psi right now and has around 700 miles on the new engine. Well on my way from NC to WV my oil pump went out and by the time I shut it off it was too late and locked up the engine. So now I need a new short block cuz I am not goin to tear down and fix this one. I am tired of ****in with it and want to put a turbo block in it and make it run and sell it. Now I have done some research on this site but can't seem to find exact answers for what I am looking for. I want to put in an ej257 with stock sohc heads and manifolds and inj. etc. Basically a sti block with everything else stock from a my00 sohc rs. I want to run 14-16psi on the ej257 when I sell it and I have evrything capable of doing this, just not the block. So here are my questions:

1. Will an ej257 bolt right up with sohc heads with intake and exhaust manifolds?
2. If the heads bolts up what headgaskets do I need?
3. Can I run the stock ecu with the ej257?
4. Whats the c/r of an ej257 with sohc heads?
5. What all do I need to swap in an ej257 like I want to?
6. Has anyone else done this?
7. What would be a list of things I need to make an ej257 run in my car?

These are the most basic questions I have as of right now. I do not have time, money, or wish to swap a wrx or sti engine in my car seeing as I will be selling it when I get it running again. I have no idea on what swaps in subaru cars, but I am a master mechanic so my knowledge of doing work is no problem. I know there are some guys on here that know all my answers so PLEASE help me out people.

Basically I want to know what I need to make an ej257 work in my car with the sohc cams and sohc manifolds.

This would probably be better suited in the Aftermarket section?

I know a lot of your questions have been and can be answered over there. Good luck

I dunno but there is only like 5 threads in the aftermarket forced induction section. Is there another section that I am missing or something?

The CR on the 257 w/sohc heads would be below the 8.5ish of the sti, probably around 8.1 or so. To my knowledge, it bolts right in, but i am not sure on the head gasket issues. ECU wise, you will want something to piggyback the ecu, or just swap them out entirely. I don't think the stock ECU will work on a low compression hybrid like that without some major help.

You should be able to use either the EJ257 or EJ251 headgaskets. It will lower the compression of the stock STi motor a touch, wagonman is probably pretty close to the number. Running 15 psi is going to be pretty gross without propper stand-alone engine management IMO.

If you were already running a boosted 2.5L block, basically nothing changes except your compression ratio. Just be sure to re-use your stock timing/crank gear.

ok so i have figured out i will need an ej257 headgasket and everything will bolt up with the timing gear said before. I am goin to be running a HYDRA but it doesn't come in for another 2 weeks and i need teh car running before then, so i think my last question is there a way to make it run with some boost with a stock ecu? if so which one? thanks again guys for helping

well I had my built engine with a c/r of 8:1 running off a stock 2000 ecu for about 3 weeks and it ran fine. if thats why you are talking about it running like crap because of he low compression ratio. if not then why would it run like crap?

You might want to give Andrew Yates a call at Andrewtech. He's the local MAIC guru and PPG gearset master. He probably could direct you or rebuild your stuff. He's built or worked on some of the faster East Coast Subies.

Their shop # is: 240-683-1000. Not too far from you (they're located in Gaithersburg, MD).

good luck!

it will run, but it will run like crap. what were you running for engine management before you popped the pump? whatever you were using should be sufficient for the time being. just don't tell us you were ONLY using the stock ecu. big no no. if you haven't yet, consider upgrading your injectors and fuel pump.

Thanks for the number saint_foo, I called him and he was a big help, thanks again

legacy2003- I had the stock ecu for a little under 3 weeks until the rings set and the car never saw boost, then I put in the HYDRA. I have 750cc injectors and 4 280cc injectors with 2 255lph pumps so I think the fuel is covered
