Default Help? 06 Black Pearl 2.5i

picked her up today in Toronto. She drives like a dream, just want to drive drive and drive some more. any tips on breaking her in besides varying speeds while driving and keepin her under 4k? one more question, when i turn the ignition (not starting her) i hear this weird noise like something turning on.. but it doesnt sound good, like it sounds like when you turn on xenon lights, that electrical buzz type of sound and some mechanical sound aswell, it lasts for like 2 secs then goes away. (its not the cars lights i dont think) thx in advance, peace

That sound is the fuel pump. Perfectly normal. In fact, during the winter it's a good idea to wait for the fuel pump to prime before starting the car. Occasionally, my car wouldn't start up right away if I didn't do that. That plus getting a battery that's much better than the stock one helped out.

The 2.5i's are great cars - I think the 2.5i's and 2.5rs's of the past have been overshadowed by WRX's and STi's - when compared to other cars with roughly the same price, it beats or at least can compare in handling and performance, but adds AWD on top of that.

The only thing stopping them from being as popular as Mazda3 GT's, Civic EX's, and Corolla XRS's (all within +/- $1000 or so of the 2.5i) is probably fancier interiors (flashing lights when you adjust the stereo, cool purple electroluminicent gauges, swoopy futuristic dashboards...) and better styling (though for the Corolla that is highly debatable).

thx VSG for the reply, now im not worried. The car handles and drives soooooooo nicely. I was debating over a mazda 3 before, i found that the mazda didnt have much road feel as the subie (which i want), furthermore i could careless about the 'hip' interior of the 3, mechanicals such as awd takes the cake for me anyday living in the snowbelt region, besides with the subie, there is more room for interior customization i think, not so cluttered with buttons and flashyness as the 3. Plus not every other car on the road is likely to be an impreza which is nice.

You know the 2.5rs really lacks the WRXs top end turbo rush, But other than that it is a truly awesome car. And the only one, i might add, That will be zooming around no problem when all those Jettas and Sentra SE-Rs' are spinning thier tires.

I was debating between a Mazda3 and 2.5i before I got my 2.5i too The Mazda3 is definitely a very nice car, luxurious and eye-pleasing, with decent handling. But honestly I felt the 2.5i was a better car mechanically, and while swoopy dashboards and flashing lights might give you a kick the first few months, after that they usually get old real quick. The 2.5i interior is, from a functional and ergonomic standpoint, actually better than the 3's interior, when evaluated against user interface design principles (Keep It Simple Stupid).

I'm also in Toronto and I picked up a black 2.5i. Super sweet ride, I couldn't wait to see what the vvt felt like. The fact that this car is awd means that it automatically beats anything in it's price range. I also looked at the Mazda 3 and a few other notables such as the Lancer and Civic. The bottom line, this thing has more horses. I found it quick and easy to drive fast. The only other car worth looking at would be the new civic si, however I would still opt for the subie because of the lower insurance rates. Plus you don't see a subie every other minute.
