Default Can't get UTEC to Work

I bought a used utec and am trying to get it to work for the first time. I connected it to my laptop using a 9v battery. It connects and then the utec page begins to flash, slowing erasing the page. The startup page does not respond to any input from the keyboard. The map is set to 0, the flash and dbw switches are pushed toward the main connection and the fcd is pushed away (going to use more than 20psi). Anyone know what the problem is? I set up hyperterminal according to the instructions.

Thanks,

Greg

Bad battery maybe?

I never used the standalone method, so I never had this problem.

That's not very clear!

What exactly are you seeing on the page? As soon as you press enter in hyperterminal, you should get the black screen and the UTEC menu up.

There is a possibility that the original user changed the baud rate, try different settings.

Use a new battery for sure.

Gethin.

A new battery fixed it. Thanks guys.

It was strong enough to power what it was in but apparently not enough for the utec.

I had this very same problem. The 9v was bad. Then I found a few other 9v/s around the house, they were also weak. The fix was to just install the bastard and turn the ignition key. Everything worked fine after that. I was kind of freaked out because I thought I dropped 600 bux on a useless utec. Everything is installed, ABC, serial to USB cable, etc and it works amazing. This is the only second we I have had utec in. I cannot believe the top end power now at 100+. The car is like a rocket. Next step is fmic then gt30???
