Default 1984 gl wagon dies for no reason??

hey I just picked up an 84 4wd wagon with the 1.8 that will just die for no apparent reason at no particular time. I'll just be driving down the road then all of the sudden it will die. I will then pull over, wait for literally 15 seconds, start it up and drive away. Any ideas?

Also, this has to be the slowest car I have ever driven, are there any performance upgrades out there like carbs, cams, etc? I'm fairly new to older subies and I would appreciate it if you guys could help me out.

Ah where to begin..... if your looking for power ur in the the wrong era of subie. the 88-89 have fuel injection, a little better, or look for a turbo, but be causious i hear the heads have issue(no experience myself)
As far as your stalling issue Change the fuel filters. If this doesnt work depending on the level of rust i would look at the fuel system, i'd start at the filler tube going into the gas tank. The rubber elbow and steel tube tend rust and have leakage with age. and if still not up and runing test the fuelpump to see if it is good. Also you may try draining the tank, they are one of the few cars with a drain plug in the gas tank. If you plan to run the car for a while i strongly suggest getting a manual for the model, i really like "Hayes" they do a great job of explaining things and have just enough pics to help figure things out in a pinch.

Thats about all i can think of, unless its the distributer...would have to have high miles b'fore that goes. Good luck, Albert

hahahaha more power out of an ea81...... a Weber 32/36 DGAV carb will give you some good power gains.. along with a larger exhast pipe and muffler. but these are just put put engines.

and about dieing.. my 84 died a few times while at a stop light. i rebuilt the carb and it worked great and got me about 5mpg more milage.
