Question How does the RS's production numbers compare to other exotic cars?

To date theres been something like 7,500 RS's made... (correct me if Im wrong)

How does these numbers compare to exotic rare cars like Lotus, Porsche, Farrari and Lamborginni?

There's been a LOT more than 7500 RSes made. I don't know the exact figures, but I'm sure someone here will. I know that Subaru is producing 10,000 WRXes for the US market this year.

no, there weren't a LOT more than that...

there are WAY more WRX's, only because Subaru knows they can sell so many, The RS was a test of the American market, which is why the numbers were VERY low. I do know for a fact, that the number of WRX's in this year alone, tops total production from 98, 99, and possibly 00, combined.

All but Porsche only pound out one or two thousand cars per year, if that.

I'm with Colin on this one. The RS is not an exotic. I'm not sure that term could be properly applied to any Subaru, except perhaps the 22B.

Well do u want to count the new RS now? I think the new RS will total alot more than the GC8 models.
And yes, an RS IS NOT considered an exotic. hehehehehe.... it might prolly go down the books as some kinda weird 323 GTX-eque car. Hey, 15 years from now, u might be able to read about how a 2.5RS would make a good cheap rally beater car!

Have a Nice Day?

Faraz-oops, my bad. I copied-and-pasted that from someone elses post a while back (forget who, sorry), and he had c&p'd it from an e-mail he recieved back from SOA. Maybe the production numbers got mixed up with the new models coming out, or something. Sorry, guess I should have double-checked my sources

Colin and Zahnster,

Although the RS might not be considered exotic to a couple of high class boys like yourselves... by definition it can be considered exotic:

ex·ot·ic (g-ztk)
adj.

From another part of the world; foreign: exotic tropical plants in a greenhouse. See Synonyms at foreign.
Intriguingly unusual or different; excitingly strange: exotic costumes from the Far East. See Synonyms at fantastic.

exotic \Ex*ot"ic\, n. Anything of foreign origin; something not of native growth, as a plant, a word, a custom.

Plants that are unknown to Italy, and such as the gardeners call exotics.

exotic \Ex*ot"ic\, a. [L. exoticus, Gr. ? fr. 'e`xw outside: cf. F. exotique. See Exoteric.] Introduced from a foreign country; not native; extraneous; foreign; as, an exotic plant; an exotic term or word.

exotic adj 1: being or from or characteristic of another place or part of the world; "alien customs"; "exotic plants in a greenhouse"; "moved to a strange country"

So stop trying to bust my bubble!<IMG SRC="http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/funny/moon.gif" border=0>

I *do* know that there are more Ferraris here in Houston than there are RSs.....same goes with Lamborghinis I believe. This could also be true for Texas as well but I'm not sure...

Not trying to bust anyone bubble, I just don't think exotic is the right word. Unique sounds much better. Under the definition provided, every foriegn car in the country is an exotic. How exotic is a Honda Accord really?

The numbers HondaH8er provided are very intriguing. One of the reasons the 02 Impreza is only offered in Sedan, i.e. no Coupe, is because the Sedan is supposed to have handily outsold the Coupe since it's introduction. The numbers HondaH8er provide seem to disagree with this. What is the source of those numbers?

Skylab has a good point though.

Off-base, but consider this: one of the rarest cars in the UK is the 2000-model Toyota Camry. Fewer Toyota Camrys than BMW M5s were sold in the UK last year - 134*, if I remember right. That's rarer than a 911, and rarer than a 2000-model Ferrari. That makes it practically exotic. (Quiz question: did Toyota manage to shift 134 Camrys in spite of, or because of, its boringness? Answers on a postcard please...).
