I went to walmart today to pickup some 5-30 mobil one and noticed that they upped the prices? it used to be 4.40/ quart but now its 5.90. They also raised the prices for the 5 quart jugs to 26 bucks or so.
Anyone know how much mobil 1 costs at costco now? thanks.

They must have had to raise the price to offset all of those 'buy 3 get 3 free' coupons in that pep boys calender last year. Why do you think I bought so many calendars?

They were out of stock for all the jugs of mobil 1 except for the 10-30. I was thinking about using that since I figured it would be fine but eventually just bought 5 quarts of the 5-30 for about 30 bucks...
I checked the price tag label and the mobil 1 jugs were definitely more expensive than before. I'll check out some other walmarts.. and about those calendars. Some dude on ebay is auctioning off a bunch. lol is that u? |

That's a good reason to switch to German Castrol Syntec 0W30 (only available at Autozone). A thick, shear stable 30 weight that won't have any problems going 6-7,500 miles in our cars (n/a, 2.0T, 2.5T, H6). You get your money's worth.

^^woooooo is that a synthetic oil? I remember reading good things about. Maybe I should give the german castrol a shot. Is the 0W30 the correct weight?
I'll go check it out. I need to rent the obd2 scanner anyways. I have ran mobil 1 5-30 most of the 50k miles on my car. Would switching to another engine oil give me some funky effects? going to run a search for the castrol now. |

As far as Castrol, It's not synthetic, but I think it's Castor oil based as opposed to petroleum based. << I'm pretty sure I read that on here somewhere, don't shoot me if I'm wrong. |

I did some research on bobistheoilguy.
the 0w30 castrol (says made in germany on the back) is fully synthetic. they also say the 5w40 m1 is good stuff. |

My WalMart sells the 5w & 10w30 for 20.17 and my local Target has single quarts of same for 4.17 for single quarts. Go figure that one.

German Castrol is a synthetic that contains ester basestocks (Group V). Motul also uses esters. Europe is not allowed to call an oil synthetic unless it is Group IV or higher. Quote:

In retrospect, I really should have purchased more of those. I only got like 5 or 6 and have just 1 left, or I would have been happy to stick one in the mail gratis. I hope they have the same calander this year, because they were only a dollar and they make 6 quarts = $15.
