Default Are there gains with race gas with no tune?

Hey, I was suppost to get tuned for race gas with my 20G awhile back but we ran out of time.. Well now I have 6 gallons of this stuff sitting around. I rather not let it go to waste so i figured I would use it. Would I gain any power from adding it to my 93 oct tune? If not can I do anything to my utec so I can. I want it to be useful at least.

you'll get a little out of it, but not nearly as much as tuned for.

No. It's not like you get a rocket on the back of your car by puting different fuel in. You won't gain any power unless you change the timing, boost, or a/f ratio. You might even lose power.

get it tuned for it there will be a huge difference i am running a super 16g and with 91 on a mustang it does 258/240 and tuned for 110 it did 288/285! that was from 16 to 20 psi on conservative maps and the bigger the turbo the more potential to gain more power.

Higher octane = more resistant to combustion, therefore less prone to knock.

It's great for more advanced timing/more compression or boost.

Not great if you don't have more timing/compression or boost...

However, if you run enough race gas the ecu is constantly testing timing vs knock and if it doesn't sense knock it will keep adding timing in. So if you run enough race gas the ecu will learn to take advantage of it over time. Not nearly as much as a proper tune though.

That's not true. Once the timing gets to a given advance, the ecu won't advance the timing anymore. This advance can occur with 93 octane, so 100 would most likely show no gains. I've also heard people say that many higher octane fuels burn slower then lower octane fuels. This can make the car run slower on 100 octane then on 93. Course that's just what I've heard, and I'm no expert.

the flame front does move more slowly with a higher octane fuel, but when you add more of the things that make power (timing boost removing fuel) it doesn't hurt but helps

i would put the race gas in and bump up teh boost a psi or two and make sure your not knocking. the only replacement for displacement is boost .
