Default Super Street Euro Tuner TIME ATTACK 2005 @ Buttonwillow

We would like to personally congratulate Dr. Russ Warr on his stellar performance at the Super Street/ Euro Tuner TIME ATTACK this past Tues. Nov 8th.

The commentary:
Russ, driving his personal 2004 STi (blueprinted 2.5L from Crawford Performance, an I-Speed Ecutek re-flash, 104 Octane, DMS 50's, FMIC from M1, a GT32+ turbo, and Brembo's), seemed to be grabbing quite a bit of attention from the get go. Unfortunately, this sort of attention does not come without a few critics. It seems that the Russ's tire selection (Kuhmo V710s), previously approved by the event organizers, was not permitted to run in the Limited Class. As such, Russ's full street car, weighing in at 3447lbs (driver included), was moved into the Unlimited Class. Imagine that, a genuine street car ; Full interior trim with two 8" JL audios speaker box , twin 110Watt amps, and fully operational A/C...running around the track amongst fully built race cars WITH professional drivers, like Tarzan Yamada! Funny and cool this may all sound, Russ was all about driving his car and he did. Actually he was able to churn out the fastest Subaru lap time of the day!

Kudos go out to Dr. Warr, excellent driving, Crawford Performance/I-Speed and the rest of the team for engineering and tuning such an incredibly competitive and reliable car.

Some Data:
Practice Session

First two sessions (there were four sessions total)

Other mentionable cars: The Rays S2000 and M3...WOW Slick rides, the wickedly fast Chevy Cobalt, LOADS of EVOs, and of course Phil from Element Tuning's personal car driven by Gary Sheehan. Phil's Subaru seemed to be doing fairly well in the first two sessions and started posting some good times. We are not sure exactly how they did. In any case, hope the guys at Element Tuning had fun. Congrats and kudos go out to them especially for making that long haul from the east cost to help represent the Subaru Community!

Be sure to be on the look out for more TIME ATTACK '05 information from Super Street and Eurotuner!

I-Speed USA

ps. No one know why Russ doesn't lighten up his car. He could lose 300lbs and run 116 and then that car should be even FASTER...still not as fast as that Cobalt though...damn that car was fast

I'm kind of surprised to see a Chevy Cobalt go so fast. Three seconds ahead of the second place time.

Quote from the link above:

"Because weight is the nemesis of performance, many of the production Cobalt elements have been replaced with carbon fiber counterparts. These include the fenders, hood, doors, roof, decklid, spoiler, side splitters and Sparco car seat. The vehicle’s glass has also been replaced with Lexan, and interior trim has been kept to a minimum. The result is a vehicle that weighs a mere 2,350 pounds."

It does not mention the suspension but it must have one hell of a set up. Was Ron Fellows driving the thing?

Thanks for the info mnavarro.

Congrats to Crawford Performance and Dr Warr. Sounds like it was a lot of fun, very impressive runs with some very competitive (lighter) cars.

Phil at Element and Gary must really like doing these events. It must be addicting. Congrats to them as well.

John Heinricy was driving the GM Entry. SO, SCCA pro/national championship driver + factory budget..

My question, which I cant seem to find is how do these times compare to SCCA track records on the same course. (2.8miles)

Even the corvette guys with the c6 z06 where talking about how fast the Dr. Warr car was. It turned a 1:26 @ Willows Springs....

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1474936

So is this still the 2004 sti with body of 06, or is it actually an 06 sti with a APR body kit. What tires is he running on that setup.

These time trials and time attacks look like a ton of fun. I think I'm going to have to look into trying them out. Who sanctions these or are they mostly track based events? Are there set rules? If so, does anyone have a link? We had a Talon built for these events, but some old man decided to pull out in front of my brother and now we have to replace the front clip.

Nope! Pretty much just show up whenever the hell you feel like in whatever vehicle you want, and just start driving REALLY fast.

This is what I roll-
(I tend to run in open class)

You can bring your gun and try to shoot other drivers while racing, but some people frown upon that- as you can see, I just use what I got to blast any traffic out of the way. It's a hoot, you should definitely try it because the rules are so nonexistent when it comes to racing against the clock with a bunch of amateurs.

You know what else is awesome? Bumping 12 month old threads!!! (ahem: jrummi )

It is the same car it was last year and the year before. Just a little nip and tuck (like many others here in LA hahaha) and voilà.
Yes the kit is from APR Performance.
We proudly run Kuhmo tires on the car
