Default 2004 STi @ Time Attack

I'll preface this as sort of a double post because there may be two conversations; One: the Motor Sports conversation and Two, the 2.5L powertrain conversation.

Congratulations go out to Dr. Russ Warr on his stellar performance at the Super Street/ Euro Tuner TIME ATTACK this past Tues. Nov 8th

The commentary:
Russ, driving his personal 2004 STi (blueprinted 2.5L from Crawford Performance, an I-Speed Ecutek re-flash, 104 Octane, DMS 50's, FMIC from M1, a GT32+ turbo, and Brembo's), seemed to be grabbing quite a bit of attention from the get go. Unfortunately, this sort of attention does not come without a few critics. It seems that the Russ's tire selection (Kuhmo V710s), previously approved by the event organizers, was not permitted to run in the Limited Class. As such, Russ's full street car, weighing in at 3447lbs (driver included), was moved into the Unlimited Class. Imagine that, a genuine street car ; Full interior trim with two 8" JL audios speaker box , twin 110Watt amps, and fully operational A/C...running around the track amongst fully built race cars WITH professional drivers, like Tarzan Yamada! Funny and cool this may all sound, Russ was all about driving his car and he did. Actually he was able to churn out the fastest Subaru lap time of the day!

Kudos go out to Dr. Warr, excellent driving, Crawford Performance/I-Speed and the rest of the team for engineering and tuning such an incredibly competitive and reliable car.

Some Data:
Practice Session

First two sessions (there were four sessions total)

Other mentionable cars: The Rays S2000 and M3...WOW Slick rides, the wickedly fast Chevy Cobalt, LOADS of EVOs, and of course Phil from Element Tuning's personal car driven by Gary Sheehan. Phil's Subaru seemed to be doing fairly well in the first two sessions and started posting some good times. We are not sure exactly how they did. In any case, hope the guys at Element Tuning had fun. Congrats and kudos go out to them especially for making that long haul from the east cost to help represent the Subaru Community!

Be sure to be on the look out for more TIME ATTACK '05 information from Super Street and Eurotuner!

I-Speed USA

ps. No one know why Russ doesn't lighten up his car. He could lose 300lbs and run 116 and then that car should be even FASTER...still not as fast as that Cobalt though...damn that car was fast

You guys were 7 seconds slower than a Chevy Cobalt, LOL!!
Just kidding. I'm sure it was an all out racecar.
Good stuff though and way to represent the STI. I would love to take part in an event like this one day.

I heard about the tire fiasco. I know in previous years they let you run with any tire, but they insisted on "street" tires this year.

I think you did great!!! 1:59 on that track is excellent!!! You should be very proud.

I know this is essentially a PR but it's pretty bad form to kudo yourself. If you want to thank your employees, thank them by name.

I love the fact this event has been created. I wish time attack had a bigger following/push here in the US.

Congrats on the performance. Looks like that car performed very well considering the low level of modification it was at and comparing that to the other cars.

Good job ...Way to show what a street driven Subaru can do...kickin some arse.

The $$$ put into R&D by GM seems to be paying off.

It goes to show what an engineered race car can do against "tuners" so to speak. I can't imagine if they say had a Z06 or something they built to compete in this competition.

Great job on the times.

I think it more than just those two that make a car go fast. It's about the "complete" package, as indicated by the lap times.

I wonder what times Gary Sheehan would have done in that car?

A big thanks to all.....

Crawford, I -Speed, Brembo, NGK ,Kumho Tires, ECUTEK, DMS, M1 DEVELOPMENT AND FABRICATION, Rays Wheels and many more.... We have worked hard on this car for the past 18 months. This is a true street car and we have had a lot of fun with it.... It is the whole package as stated B4. This is a car that can give a run to pretty much any other car that is not a race car. This past weekend we wound up winning the NASA Southern California Time Trial A class championship. This make it 2 years in a row that we have taken the title. If all goes well this car will be retired by the end of the year and the STI race car will hit the track. This will be a full race car and should get the job done in both Super Unlimited and the time trial unlimited class in the NASA series.

Again thanks to everyone for the help and I am glad that we were able to turn some heads this year..... Next year should be fun as well.....

Russ Warr
66 TTA

P.S. look for a complete car listing in the so cal for sale section in December as I am selling the car...... the wife has spoken.......1 race car will be enough!!!!

After we found out about the bump in class I personaly went around the pitts looking for tires. The tire shop at the track only had 335's I wish but no way will it fit!!!! the EVO guys that had 18's are on the 5 X 114 bolt pattern and the 04 is 5 X 100 so that would not work as well. The rep from TOYO even helped me look and offered to mount and balance the tires and it ended up that we were SOL..... Next year will be a different story......

You can contact MACK at M1 at 714-797-8380 he also has a rear diff cover under chassie support bracket and harness bar as well as the oil cooler and other cool fab related stuff.
