Default Installing 2002 WRX cd-changer in 2005 RS....

I know the harness will plug right in, but are there any mounting brackets needed? All I have is the cd-changer and mounting screws, no brackets or anything, like this picture:

I'm selling this to someone with a 2005 RS, and I want to make sure I'm not sending him something he can't install correctly. Thanks!

ya, you need the mounting brackets that go on the sides of the radio. Althgouh, the person your selling it too might have them as well with his stock radio.....

He already has the stock 2.5 RS radio. Can you use those brackets for the cd-changer?

I tried to do this once before( 02WRX 6disc ---> 05 TS). The antenna, harness etc didn't match like I expected. Are you sure it's a clean swap? There was a difference in the in-glass antenna etc

That seems to be the general consensus from the searching I've done, but I may be wrong. What did you do to get it to fit? And again, does anyone know if the brackets from the RS radio will work for the cd-changer?

I didn't get it to fit. I didn't have the interest in fabbing a connector either. I wish I could direct you to a complete solution that works. But rest assured this will NOT work with the existing connectors. Brackets on the other hand ought to be just fine.

All Impreza/WRX's from 1993-up have used the same 14-pin radio harness with the same pin-out.

Or to put it another way, if your radio has a single, 14-pin connector for speaker/power then it has this pin-out.

In some cases you'll need to add a 12" to 18" extension cable for the coax antenna wire to reach the back of the radio (the antenna jack on earlier Subaru radios was at the end of a ~17" pigtail).

The buyer should use the mounting brackets that came with his car. If he no longer has those, he'll need to get replacements (try a junk yard, or http://subaruparts.com).

There's a small chance that your brackets would work in his car, but you should keep them (and the screws) to use in your own car. Generally, after-market radios don't include the screws, so you have to re-use what was originally in your car.

Okay, this completely contradicts what the other person was saying, although you do sound like you know what you're talking about. He does have his stock radio, so I guess mounting won't be a problem. Can anyone else clear this up, or verify that the 2.5 RS radio harness will, in fact, plug right into the 2002 WRX Cd-changer?

The harness from the RS will plug into the Changer from the wrx. The antenna lead from the WRX is different than the antenna lead from the RS cause it's an in-glass style. You will have to make an interconnect like the previous poster said.

All the '04 and later Imprezas have an in-glass amplified antenna. In order for it to work correctly, there is an extra lead that needs to be connected to switched +12V to power the antenna. This should already be connected in your recipient's car, but if not, there are a number of threads describing it (including ones in the forum sticky, I believe).
