Default Oil Leak (Photos)

1998 Subaru Impreza L, 120,075 miles
I've had an oil leak progress. However, I'm not quite sure if it's the oil pan seat right above the jack plate near the tranny or if its the valve cover. Hopefully you can draw a conclusion from the pictures. Opinions?

Front or rear oil seal? My front seal has had to be replaced twice.

Rear 'cam-plate' o ring leaking. Common as mud. Don't really need an o ring. undo the 12 mm bolts, turn as you remove it, this makes it easier to pull it out straight. If you **** it sideways it will lock up. Remove the plate, clean it and apply some threebond or simillar. No more leaks!!
Hope this helps

Sixpack, I think I saw this "cam plate" last night. It was a plate with what looked like two 12mm bolts. Seems like a straight forward righty tighty lefty loosey fix. Yes, it is on the right side. It's hard to tell by the pictures.

JPX, I replaced both the front main and cam seals last year. I figured it to be a an oil separator plate or oil pan gasket.

You got it Charles,
stick your camera down there and have a go at it from the back of the cyl head, you will see it plain as day. Two bolts, offset, and a central circular body where the o ring goes.
Too Easy!! LOL

Cheers Mate

when you replaced the front main?
did you replaced this oil pump o ring as well?

lots of folks forget that bit, & the car will continue to seep oil if it's missed.

i agree, that's got to be the source

I bought the o-ring today for the cam plate. I'll try to remember to take some pictures. In the mean time I'm fighting a pesky rear lateral link bolt and wheel bearing job

Just to conclude this thread, after replacing the Cam Service Hole O-ring and a week of driving, I'm happy to confirm no more leaks.
