Angry 1500 miles and CE light comes on.

Hi all,

As the topic says, my car has 1500 miles on it and my CE light is on. This is really frustrating. The dealer has told me to check the engine oil cap, which i did, and well, it wasn't exactly tight. I had my engine oil changed 6 days ago and yesterday the light came on. I've tighten it and the light is STILL on today. I was planning to attend my first Subaru gathering in New England tomorrow, which is about a 1 hour drive but it looks like this annoying light is gonna change all that.

Check your gas cap to see if it's missing/loose. that accounts for 50% of subaru CE lights. Other than that, my guess is that it's your O2 sensor. Get the dealer to pull the code for you for a reason why the CE light is on if the gas cap trick doesn't work.

First of all was it raining out while you were driving your car?
What happens is there is a sensor near the gas filler tube in the wheel well and it gets wet and causes the light to come on.There is going to be a recall on it but for now they are replacing the sensor and protecting it with a shield.

The gas cap CEL will go away after a while with out having to reset the ECU but I'ld take it in.. its probably an 02 sensor.. I was told by a suby mechanic that they got a bad batch of o2 sensors when they were building the cars.

Go ahead and reset your ECU.

Disconnect battery
Wait like an hour
Connect Battery
Start the car without stepping on the gas
Leave running for like 20 min
Shut down

Good to go. Bet it'l fix your light.

I've got a 00 rs. my cel came on and I took it to the dealer. they had to replace the catalytic converter. If it's your first one, take it in. It's driveable though. Go have fun this weekend.

I had the same deal at about 10k. Checked the gas cap and all that according to the manual and dealers advice. It went on and off for a week before i could take it in. It did end up being the o2 sensor, which was quickly replaced under warranty. i think it was a recall anyway. Its been fine since.
