Default Prices on used 04-05's going up?

Well about 6 months ago I was looking for an STI but got side-tracked by my work ( ). Anyway, since the 06 models came out it seems that the used 04 and 05 models are going for a lot more $. What do you guys think?

kbb does not really determine what price should be paid. The consumer market determines that. If kbb says an 05 sti is worth 26500 but people are willing to pay 28000 then thats the real value

How many people do you know that willingly pay that much more than KBB just for a different nose? The fact that STis are generally driven hard and put away wet would incline me to not pay above KBB.

People on NASIOC DONOT pay KBB. When I was trying to sell my bugeye, people offered me around $5000 under bluebook. Yeah, I told them to go do something to themselves that was impossible and uncomfortable.

kbb.com doesn't give good real-world values anyway. edmunds.com is a lot better, but I think any site will have trouble valuing a high-performance car with the low production numbers of the STi.

They're not low enough to matter.....it's not like there's 50 buyers out there for every one STi that's for sale....

No, I just meant that there aren't enough total STi sales reported to give people a good "real world" idea of how much the cars are going for.

It could just be your local market too. More buyers than cars.

I was told by a very reliable source that the 05 STis makes the most awhp in stock form, more than the 04s and even the 06s, mabe someone else found out about it.

Don't take investment advice from this "reliable" source..

just to give you an idea, in 2004 subaru sold approx 7000 STi's if I remember correctly, I had obtained the information via Subaru of America a little while ago (I wanted to figure out how many BBS Sti rims there were with 5X100 bolt pattern)

There's all the 5x100 BBS STi rims you want if you're willing to give Subaru $800 for each one

According to Edmunds, the value of my 04 STi with 16,000 miles is $25,000. That's much better than I expected if that number is true.

Subaru's styling department is in charge of keeping used values up.

Every time they do a redesign, older models look better and better.

I never thought of it that way...but you may be on to something. I remember a dealership telling me that Subaru was offering people significantly good trade-in value on the '02-'03 MY if they'd buy an '04+. This gives them more "used but better looking" cars on the lot to attract attention. Now that the ugly '06 comes out...the '04+ seems to go up in value.

If this is the case....I can only imagine how ugly the next Subaru will have to be to make the '06 MY look anything close to good!
