Not too much higher, but it looks a lot more aggressive from inside the car and out. If you really want, I can measure mine tommorrow.

My stock '02 measures 1 3/8" opening height, and my JDM '01-'02 STi measures 2 1/4" opening height.

So, yeah, about an inch or so.

It doesn't sound like much, but it really is quite a big difference.

If my information is correct, the scoops that fit the USDM '02-'03 models are not interchangeable with the MY '04+ scoops in either standard WRX or the taller STi scoops. The mounting bases in the hood are different dimensions.

I have seen one or two threads that indicate that there MIGHT be an aftermarket '04+ replica scoop that is made to fit '02-'03 models, but not vice-versa.

Be wary of replica scoops.

I'm just curious. I was thiiiis close (index finger and thumb together) to buying a replica about 8 times over the last 3 months, but I just couldn't get myself to pull the trigger. Maybe it was because of the painting issue. I came into a little extra cash and got a real painted STI scoop instead. I'm glad I did. It matches the car perfectly.

I just recently custom fitted a 04-05 sti scoop for a 02-03 wrx. I reworked the sides also to give it a little more shape it kinda has a body line like the bulge in the fenders

Speaking from experience, ahem , I bought a replica. After the engine heated it up once or twice, the material bulged and warped. It didn't fit as well as OEM, and in the end I had to buy OEM anyway. The difference in price just is not worth the risk, IMO. But that's not to say there aren't some good replicas out there, just be careful.

The genuine STI scoop is made out of the same material as the OEM WRX scoop. I see a lot of aftermarket scoops are listed as fiberglass. I would think fiberglass would hold up decently.

+1 HagWag02. What was your aftermarket scoop made out of?

I think I got it from APS. Normally APS is a quality leader. Not in this case. The best I can figure is that it's polyurethane or some similar kind of semi-flexible plastic.

They really need to be fiberglass, fiberglass reinforced, or even carbon fiber. Stay away from papier-mache, too.

Sometimes these things happen when forced by circumstances to shop via the internet.
