Okay I'm confused, the first post being in two posts, and then the grammar in the title.

The Question was. How much do YOU believe it would cost to build the Xbox360. From microsofts point of view.

What are you saying? Are you respoding to a post or just saying something again rather then posting in your initial post like normal people do.

The CPU alone probably cost them $400 a chip including intellectual property rights.

Wow you really do have a beef don't you. How about you take your issues up with someone who can at least offer physical contact.

Anyway thanks for highlighting the incorrect gramma and the poor use of words. But please excuse me I don't give a dam.

it uses ATI's X1800 video card that retails now for ~$400. I am sure they are not paying $400 to ATI, but nevertheless, the card and other components should cost them around $400. They will make money when they start to sell new games.

You guys are retarded if you think that the actual manufacturing costs are 1k/unit.

It is not that simple. The cost isn't magic number in the Xbox360 production, it's an estimate. Let's say it costs Microsoft 10,000,000 in associated costs to nvidia, it's own development, etc to bring 360 to market. If MS wants to break even in first year sales, assuming they sell 2 million consoles between now and Christmas, each 360 would be needed to be sold for $5. However this isn't the case.

What Microsoft has done is come up with some number of consoles they can sell at a set price in order to maintain profitability. The price was probably much too high for a console. So, its hard to say Microsoft is taking x loss on each console. They are taking a hit and hoping their cash reserves can cover credit they owe other companies until total x360 sales match the costs it generated.

Full_Clip thinks the price would be at least double for MS to be profitable in 360 in a short period of time.

I never said cost to manufacture the thing. I said Microsofts cost.

For one it goes without saying that IBM sell these babys for at least $300 each. Plus the design rights which will be easily in the 10's of millions.
