Unhappy My Baby Got Busted

There was a five car pile up on northbound I-5 yesterday afternoon near Kelso that had all three lanes backed up for about a mile by the time I got there. I had just stopped at the end of the line in the center lane when the Toyota pickup behind me failed to stop. The woman driving said she had fallen asleep. No one in my car was hurt, but in addition to the visible damage, the cover over the right rear strut tower was dislodged somehow and the fold down seat on the right side will no longer latch in the upright position. Additionally, the steering wheel is now turned 5-10 degrees off center to the left. Looks like my frame got sprung a bit.

If your frame is bent, see if the insurance company will total it. This didn't happen with my WRX but my grand am. Got a new one no problem on the other party's insurance. Worth a look into.

My apologies...

Please keep us updated. My girlfriend is looking at that exact car so we're a bit curious about the details.

Did she hit you at a high rate of speed? Sorry, I don't want to be nosy, but I'm curious.

Have a Nice Day? Hard Hit, Hard to Say

She was on the brakes hard when she hit me and it was the hardest I've ever been hit, and I don't think it was more than 25, or so, but it was quite a jolt.

I'm glad to hear no one got hurt and everyone walked away unscaver (excpet for your blue baby). As others have said the car can be replaced but those in the car can not.

GET AN ATTORNEY

I'm not much for getting back at people but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. besides if she has insurance it wont hurt her much if you get a settlement that will put 4 or 5 WRX's in your driveway or maybe even a new dirveway in a new area.

sleeping at the wheel?? unexcusable

Phil! Man...good to see you are OK after being hit by a pickup. All of these pickups and SUVs on the road worry me.

If they have to do any frame work I would be seriously wary. Supposedly frame straighteners have come a long way, but I have still had a couple of friends need to have their frames straightened by reputable body shops and their cars NEVER drove the same again. In fact they would eat up tires like they were going out of style!

Good luck to you man!

Definately go for a settlement. How many people were in the car? If you want some extra spending money, take them all to the doctor and have them checked over for whiplash and what not (you said it was quite the jolt). This will definately get you some extra money. Without a doctors report, chances of getting money for personal injury would be slim. Of course if no one got whiplash or anything, then I guess it'd be insurance fraud. Maybe you should call your insurance agency and talk to them about it. Tell them that you (or the others or all) are experience whiplash pains (or whatever is hurting) and wanted to know what you needed to do to get reimbursed. I'm pretty sure going to the doctor is what they'd tell you.

And in the end, you'll have a good as new (or almost good as new) subie and some money for some mods.

-Matt

p.s. I also think its crap that female drivers insurance is less than males. Isn't that descrimination? In my perfect world, both male and female drivers would start out at the same rate (depending on the car).

Phil, I am soooo sorry, and was just bruised to hear of your plight. Oh, geeez..... did she smell of alcohol and was there any suspicion she'd been drinking? Man, how does the car drive?? I wish you godspeed in getting thru all this mess. Let us know how things progress, and again, I send along much sympathy and concern. Are you OK, and how's your neck???

Lemme guess, she didn't even apply the brake, right? It doesn't look like the front of her truck nosed down on impact...

Thumbs up Hi Subymamma

All is O.K. with me, just a few muscle aches is all. I think she must have been on the brakes because the speed limit there is 70 mph and I don't think she was going more than 25-30 when she hit me. There was no alcohol involved. She had her son with her and they were returning home from a Civil War re-enactment they had attended that weekend and she probably hadn 't had much sleep. She had some cuts and bruises and her boy, even though he was wearing a seat belt, hit his head on the dash. The air bags in neither vehicle went off. I wonder how hard you have to get hit to trigger the bags?

John
