my car had been running crappy for some time. we diagnosed it to be a spanked td04 as well as a bad coilpack. car runs great now, but had low compression and now the headgaskets are blown (car pisses coolant everywhere and overheats).
question 1: while the motor is apart i would like to upgrade to a usdm sti shortblock. would i need engine management to do this, or would the stock ecu (02) be able to work with it (for now)? question 2: the blown turbo was replaced with a standard 16g turbo. right now i am on stock ecu, stock injectors, and stock fuel pump (wrx) running stock boost. i eventually will be getting these things, but i'd like to get the car drivable first. even without management and all those things, the car still ran great, despite the fact it overheats and everything. car pulled very hard with the 16g despite the bit of lag from being untuned. we hooked my friend's utec up to it, and the a/f was pretty good. it was a tad bit on the lean side, but nothing crazy. question is, do i need management to run this turbo in its existing state?
