Default Why Upgrade Water pump on Supercharged 2.5 rs? (5psi)

Car: 98 rs 5.5 psi supercharger.

Hello, i've been reading about various projects, and even though most of them deal with Turbo applications, boost is boost.

I saw a number of people suggesting upgrading a water pump on NA rs's to a Legacy or a WRX one.

My question is why?

Thank you
Alex-

I've never heard of having to replace the water pump, but I have heard of upgrading to a bigger radiator. Especially if it was going to be a track car.

My guess would be that the WRX or legacy water pumps flow more. 5 psi of boost isn't that much and I don't you'd need up upgrade the water pump unless you were tracking the car. But in that case i still think the water pump is big enough.

As i said i've only heard of replacing the radiator if it was a track car. Thats just my .02

A quick look through my parts lists yielded the following:
Code:
Impreza	DOHC	98	21111AA007
Impreza	SOHC	99-01	21111AA007
Impreza	SOHC	02+	21111AA007
Impreza	2.0	02+	21111AA026

Legacy	To 2-97	21111AA007
Legacy	From 3-97	21111AA110
So, it does look like the 97+ legacy 2.5 and the 02+ WRX had different pumps, as to what the difference is I have no idea.

the reason people se a wrx/ turbo legacy waterpump is when they turbo their car using wrx headers, they use the pump because the NA waterpump goes out straight down, interfering with the headers (it wont fit) the turbo waterpump goes out sideways, allowing space for the headers to pass under. iirc the thermostats are the same, its just the direction of the output of the waterpump
