Default Why do I feel like such a shmuck today?

My little brother asked he if could borrow one of my vehicles yesterday. His transmission went up in his Dakota and wants to use something till he gets it fixed. His mentioned stuff to my other brothers and they told me, about how he doesn't understand why I have so many cars and such and how I should just give him one. I helped him before, I gave him a 84 chevy pick up to use. He said he would pay me what I had invested in it when he got the chance. 2 1/2 years later (a couple peircings and 4 tattoes) he totalled it and I haven't seen a dime. I didn't mind helping him or the money on that one, but the fact that after he wrecked it, I asked to get a couple thing out and off of it for me before it was junked. He told me he didn't have time to get my stuff and let it go to the yard with it. Now he wants to "borrow" something else. I feel bad for saying no, but I just can't. I'm sorry he's down on his luck, that his wife refuses to get a job and that he has 3 kids, but why should I have to pay for it. I busted my ass to get where I am today, and now I feel bad for it?

You did right...I have an older Brother like this. He's a user, will use anybody and usually to the point that they no longer have anything to give, then he has no use for them.

Your brother sucks.

Seriously, if you give him anything, you're a fool and you're only harming him.

You're not a shmuck.

There's a limit to how tightly family ties bind you to your brotherly responsibilities. While helping him out was the right thing to do, if he's still in the same situation 2-1/2 years later, then it's high time he pull his head out of the sand and get some perspective.

I strongly believe that, for the most part, we make our own luck. Your little brother needs to learn that. Start by administering an Indian burn.
