Default Price of oil change at dealer?

I scheduled an appointment for December 1, 2005 at Gerald Subaru Dealer in Naperville, IL. I just found out that my free oil change coupon has expired. How much would a dealer charge for an oil change on a 05 STI? Thanks.

why wouldn't you just call and ask? expect to pay a bit more if you want synthetic oil over dino. if you get it dealer changed, go to walmart and buy a 5qt jug of synthetic, so you won't have to pay the inflated prices at the dealer. will save you money and they would only charge for some labor i would assume.

I would say $30-$40 for synthetic. Why don't you do it yourself. It's SUPER easy and saves you a boatload, especially in the long run. Not only that, you can pick whatever oil to put in your car as opposed to going with whatever the dealer has.

Also, you better check your oil levels after the oil change if you do get it done at the stealership. They overfilled it by 1 quart, THEN underfilled it by 1 quart! Unbelievable!

Yeah they seem to always find something else to "fix."

i just called the dealer and found out it will cost $29.47, so basically $30.00 for regular. When would you guys start recommending synthetic? around how many miles?

Wait until after 10,000 miles....although most people on here will disagree on that. I have seen people start replacing their oil with synthetic on their first oil change and go thru 2 quarts of oil between oil changes.

This is mostly due to using lightweight or thin oils. The same people that are doing that are usually running Mobil 1 5w30 or 10w30. Going to a different brand or heavier weight solves the issue. Things like rings seal in the first few minutes of engine start and other items like rubber seals usually are fine by the first few hundred but are really good to go after 1k to 2k.

I personally switched at 17k or so as there is nothing wrong with a good dino oil

I switched at 7500 miles to synthetic. Been doing used oil analysis since and my engine looks good as new.
